My /6 turns over real slow, is there a starter from a newer Mopar motor that will swap with a slant six? I'm looking for something with more torque at a bone yard price

Your problem in NOT likely that you "need more torque." It is FAR more likely that you simply have something wrong that needs fixed, and 'it might be" it could be the starter

You need to load test the battery or have it tested. I'm talking about a high current LOAD tester, not some toy you can hold in one hand

You need to check for voltage drop in the battery cables and connections.

And if that is all OK replace the starter. Mid 90's Dakota/ RAM starters seem to be a popular replacement. They are smaller and much more efficient than the older "wound field" original starters.

Well said 67dart273, and yes Rat Rod Al, the ram truck and Dakota starters are a must do upgrade. I loved the one I put on my /6, I am now going to a 360 and using the same starter, do the upgrade, it spins the engine much FASTER

I bought a mini starter that is used on a Dodge Dakota. Works great, spins faster and dosn't have the old school mopar sound. Under $100. I'm very happy.

Agree. i just put one on my 68 /6 Barracuda vert. Faster spin and sound better, not tired.

Why not get a mini starter at the boneyard ?
Doesn't have to be a Dakota.
There are no fewer than 25 Chrysler cars that use the same mini starter. Go to the junkyard, and find a Chrysler,Plymouth,Dodge car. If it has a mini starter, it will bolt on.

I got mine at a Mopar swap meet for $35. Put it on my slant because it came with a bad starter. Lasted about 2 yrs then it became intermittent leading to no crank. Bought 2 new internal copper contacts and fixed it.

Smaller, less weight and spins faster. What's not to like? I do miss tge distinctive Chrysler sound though.
