Just Purchased Virgin 340 Short - What to do with Pistons

Casting date is 6 - 18 -71.
I truly thank everyone for the contribututions, as I feel we all learn something. Certainly myself.

Yep a 99% chance of a 72 model year engine with that casting date

and those 1972-3 pistons. any numbers or letters on them? or recycle them. and quench is raising pistons and lowering open chamber heads and or going closed chamber heads. for most of us .040" quench is great

very difficult to get quench with an open chamber without quench dome pistons for example the KB's or custom
weld up the chambers
mill away the open chamber

OP, if you are looking at new pistons, there are alos the Icon IC9975 forged from their FHR series. They sit about .010" in the hole with a nominal LA deck, and have 2 eyebrows. Also JE has some in their SRP line.

Thank you. Forged seems a bit excessive for my use, running highway gears and an automatic. I don't think I will ever exceed 4K RPM.
