Greetings, been a chevy guy my whole life and my 15 yo son fell in love with 1968 dodge dart, has big plans some day for his recent purchase. Point is, Dad and son learning together. so here goes. 273 engine compact wheel 9 inch front brake job to get road worthy.

brake drum hold down kits (pins and springs) all parts catalog says for 10" but we have 9", I assume interchangeable? Did the 9" have the pin/spring hold down set up?

what is the part of the brake line between front hose and wheel cylinder called? I've been on different websites like inline but can't seem to find that particular part? any leads? we don't need them yet but wondering in case they are compromised and need to be replaced.

Looking forward to learning and the more pics i see of these mopars the more i think they're super cool. thank you

Welcome aboard glad to have you. Sounds like a fun father son project! Let's see it!

Welcome aboard, sounds like the young pup has good taste! Must come from Moms side lol:poke:
I believe the 9" kits are specific to 9".
I use Rock Auto for references. Also go to mymopar.com and download a free service manual and parts manual. They are invaluable to have.
Make sure to post yours n Sam's questions in the relevant forum as they will get more traffic there.
Post pics!

Welcome to the forum. 1968 - I believe you meant 273? Cool car, not many made as the 273 were starting to wind down. Post pics!

Welcome you two. You raised a smart kid. LOL It's great you have a project together. Post up some pictures when you can. Try your local parts stores for brake parts. Also Rockauto online has a lot available. I believe you have a 273 under the hood. I can correct your post.

Welcome!!! There are 4 companies that make pre- bent brake an fuel lines, they sell all or parts of kits. Yep, 9 inch brake kit is what you want.

The part between the soft hose and the brake caliper itself isn't that a banjo fitting or something? That might be on disc brakes. The hot ticket is to switch to disc brakes up front with a large bolt pattern. the large bolt pattern meaning 5 on 4 and 1/2 instead of 5 on 4 allows how much bigger rims selection... And as you probably are going to find out having a 16 year old kid he's going to want more horsepower LOL which means a bigger rear end to hold on to it which is going to likely have the large bolt pattern as well..
When you start studying that small block as compared to one of your Chevy you'll start figuring things out.. put a small block Chevy lifter and a small block Mopar lifter in your hand and think about which one you want... Do you want that little 5/8 Chevy bolt holding your harmonic balancer on or the inch and an eighth bold Mopars have.. do you want your rocker arms flopping around on single pedestals or do you want them on a shaft for stability.. (like NASCAR)...
Remember as you learn things a lot is actually the same, the one thing for sure a lot of Chevy guys can't work on mopar's but most Mopar guys can work on Chevy's... Learn it, live it, love it, LOL..
I for one would love to see some pictures.....

Yes, you want 9" drum parts, they are not the same as 10" parts. As @j par mentioned above, you could benefit from an upgrade to the front brakes. The 9" stuff is adequate but pretty lame if spirited driving is on your agenda.

And there is hope for you yet, I spent 30 years in Chevy-land before coming home. So far I'm up to five Mopars, four of which are dead in the driveway.
