I was told the same thing till I showed up on the fastest 1/2 mile tri oval in the states, and destroyed the field with a A body mopar. My car still holds the track record there. They made mopars illegal after that. Tracks now out of business

Was it a NC track? I can't remember where you told me you live. :realcrazy:

Look at what every demolition derby did. Outlawed any of the Chrysler big cars. 300, Newport, you name it. C body and it's banned. Yet, you see Impalas, and every other big GM car ever made.

Yeah, Imperials were always the hot ticket if they'd let you run 'em. Like driving a bus through a field of Yugos.

Backwards. That was the best way. They would plow right through anything backwards. I've seen it first hand. LOL

I still have a W8 complete truck engine. I bought it from a land speed racer that had a slew of W8 stuff. There was also a stash of R5/P7 engines up in Vegas from a cup team until a couple years ago so yes, some of that stuff is still laying around after all these years.

w8 engine is it for sale?

The only Nascar I enjoy watching is the old vintage races when cars were cars.
and some of the cars were Hudson Hornets,, the early races on the sand at Daytona Brach are incredible.
The early Darlington Races are also very good, much variety in the cars being raced. There are interesting views of mechanics assembling engines, working on the cars brakes, in the track garage area. There is also some tough carnage, steel Armco walls tended to get punched through,
1958 Darlington

I don't usually follow NASCAR (sacrilege I know), but am watching Darlington and only seeing three manufactures represented- Ford, Chevy and Toyota. So, when is the last time that Mopar was racing NASCAR? Do I assume that Chrysler-Fiat is just not interested in NASCAR?
Exactly.

They've even alluded to the fact that, after all, it isn't even "Stock Car" racing anymore. Nothing remotely resembling production bodies or engines, no brand recognition, so no benefit to the manufacturer. No benefit= not interested.

Disagree. Why do Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota dump millions of dollars into sponsoring teams in all the NASCAR touring series, as well as many other forms of racing? Why do Ferrari, Renault, McLaren, etc... dump billions of dollars into F1? Talk about no resemblance to a "car"!

As far as NASCAR, Ford and Chevy (notice they're the only rep of GM) have been in and out of official sponsorships many times over the years. Toyota was trying to get a foothold in the American racing scene. NASCAR is in decline right now (mostly because of reasons stated) and they feel their money is better spent elsewhere. They still have a presence in other forms of racing (NHRA, lots of road events), but there is talk of a return to NASCAR (just rumors at this point) if certain points are met... don't hold your breath.
In F1, Ferrari is part of Fiat/Chrysler, so why would corporate dump money into competing against themselves? Ferrari has more international recognition and history in F1. Somebody would get fired for suggesting that Dodge should compete in that arena. There is probably already enough infighting for corporate dollars between Fiat/Ferrari/Alfa/Dodge for sponsorship money. It's all about making $$, and where it is most effectively spent or invested- and that's how corporations view participation. Nascar just didn't make sense for FCA anymore.

Just like Pro Camaro. Not one stock part. Cuold care less if NHRA was never televised again. Nascar is the same identical cars racing. Same tires, suspension. tranny, drive train, engine internals, template body, etc. Booooooring.

And that is why I don’t watch football, they all use the same footballs, goal posts, lot of teams run the same plays. Same goes for baseball and basketball, all cookie cutter,,,all the teams playing the same sport all use the same equipment. No variety, no innovation.

I think they should have a handicap rule for players under 6 ft. tall. Or they all have to be the same height and weight or it isn't fair if the tall guys win. What about the faster player has to carry an extra 50 lbs to make it fair if the fast guy wins.

But we can't let anybody win, because that would mean there is a loser, and that might hurt his or her feelings and we can't have that. After all, we're ALL winners... here's your trophy.

Yeah where they got out of the wrecked all to hell cars at the end of the race and beat the hell outta each other. That's real racin right there. I don't care who you are. lol

NASCAR bent over backwards chasing Toyotas money and did nothing to keep Chryslers competing, attendance is down IMO they underestimated how many Mopar fans there were/are. I know I haven't watched since Chrysler left.
I doubt the down turn in views was from dodge not being involved. NASCAR was doing great before dodge came back in the mid 00s. The major down turn came from them chasing the casual fan that like the name implies casually left as well. The whole playoff and now heat race BS is what drove fans away.

Imagine a car company making a 'stock' car that was so much better than anything anyone had to offer that it was boring when they finished 1-2-3-4-5-6-7, then the next race they finished 1-2-3 because 4 of the other (same) cars were involved in an accident. Think Brand-C and -F fans would come back to watch their boys get whooped again and again? Nope. BTW that wasn't the 426 Hemi, but the Hyper-Pak Valiant in the 1960 NASCAR "compact Car' series. That series vanished quickly.

My cousins and went to a lot of nascar races in the 90’s and we had a ball. It seemed in the late 90’s nascar started chasing a different type fan than the good ole boy type. The last race we went to was in 2001.

After the chase crap started I told them it would turn into iroc. The team and driver would show up and draw for a nascar owned car, put their sponsor wrap on and race. It’s almost there.
