4-bbl 440s, both auto and 4-speed, used the 8-3/4 rearend. Common Suregrip gearing was either 3.23 or 3.55.
The reason the Dana went into the six-pack cars was because they came from the factory with 4.10-gearing.
A mild 440 build should be fine with a 8-3/4.
