I guess this is the best proof of what color the top mecanism had from start. These are the rubber boots that goes on the sides of the rear bow. The rear bow is mounted with two screws and on top these rubber boots cover the screws. This car had white rubber boots so I'm pretty sure is came with a white top mecanism.
