Crazy storm!

Had a tree do some pretty good damage to my house a year ago. The insurance depreciated everything until I appreciated it. That's how my company rolled. It was frustrating and burdensome. Good luck. I'm glad you are all safe. You could just call a restoration company and let them take care of it all but I wanted more control over the situation. Don't need a bunch of crack heads running around my house. Through the roof is an awesome product. Through the Roof!® by Sashco - Roofing Sealant & Caulk. Keep all of your receipts.

Yea I got a buddy who does roofing I'm gonna talk to him and see what he will charge. Depending on what the insurance does. I dont want a bunch of meth heads I dont know fixing my roof. Typically I am a diyer and would just do it myself but I cant do roofs I am terrified of height. I got up in the roof twice today to remove the tree and my legs was shaking so bad I nearly locked up. I managed to get the tree off and cut up but there is no way I can replace the whole section of roof a bunch of shingles got pulled up too right on the edge I just cant!! I am a terribly stubborn man and take pride in doing stuff myself but when heights are involved I just cant do it.

Don't let the insurance blow smoke up your ***. Find out the going rate to removing those trees. They are gonna try to screw you on the shingles too. They will send in a sample to a independent lab to tell you where to buy them and just piece them in. They wont match. They need to replace them all on that line of sight. Throw the term "diminished value" at them.

The insurance company should pay for any tree removal for a tree that hits a building.

I'd recommend a Stihl MS250 for an all around chain saw. It comes with a 16'' bar and is great for cutting 12" or smaller. It does bigger stuff, but a little slower. Buy a gallon of 40:1 premixed gasoline. [about $10]. For storage; pour out the old gas and fill with the $10 stuff and run it for a couple of minutes. It will last 1 to 2 years before the carb gums up. Also, buy the correct Stihl file/holder guide. It is cad plated flat steel with angle marks stamped into it. [.325, I think]. And an extra chain.

About a decade ago I was outside when I heard a low rumble in the distance. The sky got dark and the noise got closer. My neighbors trees started bending [200 feet away]. Suddenly we had a 'white out'. Got pelted with big rain drops. Ran into the house. Two minutes later it was gone. Damage to small trees only. The big oaks held onto the gravel pretty good. The side of the house was plastered with pieces of green leaves. Good luck and be safe with the chainsaw.

Do you have soil on that side of the country or sand ?
The OP's trees appear to have a course sandy type soil in the root ball.
Soil, the ground is like a sponge, it just can’t hold anymore water.

Here's what I got cut up so far still have a giant mess. I'm gonna go buy a new saw in the morning apparently poulan isnt as good as they use to be I had my first one for close to 15 years and it ran like a champ it messed up on my last year and bought a new one. This one sucks. Bad! It Boggs down wont build rpm wont idle dies in the middle of a cut its garbage. I guess I'm gonna use some of my car money I been saving and go buy a stihl in the morning.

A good saw will still be running, long after the car is done.

Maybe miroburst??? Back in Mo. I saw one blow a 60 x 150 ft indoor arena (pole barn) 100 yards into the timber. A tornado would not have been any worst, just more scattered.

Making ground on it. Here the new saw I picked up I hate ti spend that much money on one but hopefully it will last a lifetime. It was 399. And I bought the extended warranty it was little over 450 with oil and warranty but my gosh it cuts amazing

That will be a great saw. Only use the Stihl 50-1 mix in ethanol free gas, and you won't have any trouble out of it. Also, only use bar and chain oil in the oil reservoir, and fill it every time you put in gas. We used to use motor oil for bar and chain oil at work until we learned better. Motor oil will burn up a bar and chain in no time flat! Congrats on getting a great saw. Keep the tip outta the dirt!.....LOL

Yea I bought the full synthetic 50.1 its required with the 2 year extended warranty. I also got the stihl bar oil I learned my lesson using motor oil for bar oil lol

I'm done for the day I'm exhausted. I got 3 loads of brush hauled off and two loads of firewood stacked up

I think you may get luckier than you think with the roof. You might need a sheet of 7/16 OSB, some tar paper and shingles….and that will be about it. The peak line doesn't appear to be sagging, so I think the tree just busted a hole thru the OSB between 2 rafters. Did it bust thru the inside sheet rock?

No luckily it didnt. There is alot if shingles that will have to be replaced there is a place on the other end that the shingles blew up and it got wet underneath them. I'm not sure if the OSB will have to be replaced there too or not? Depending what the insurance does I would like to metal roof the whole thing. I would be willing to pay the difference. I'm not a fan of shingles.

I was gonna suggest metal roof. Young fella like yourself could do it easy. Screw it down right over the shingles or maybe put down perlins and insulate between them. Got a metal roof supply close by?

I know I can do it physically but mentally nope I can crawl and climb around on a roof. I'm absolutely terrified of heights.

Glad you are OK! Yeah, the rain in that area has been crazy. My son's house in Salem is on top of a small hill, but the worst rain was pushing water into the basement on 3 sides! The ground is just soaked.

One good thing came out of this: your new Stihl! My 026 is still going strong after 31 years. My neighbor was having fits with his consumer level Poulan and tried my Stihl... he bought a new Stihl the next day LOL

If I was closer, we'd have that roof fixed pronto.

Yes it is. I know if I posted the picture or not but there is standing water in the hole where the root ball was it's at least a 2 foot deep hole. That's how saturated it is.

Ahhh. You will get used to it after a while. Mind over matter.
Man I got up there yesterday and cut the tree off the house and threw all the branches off the roof it was horrible and I was there for 10 15 mins tops no way I can do it all day especially the edges I'm fine in the center but the edges I cant do

Rent some scaffolding and put it up around the edges. It’s not expensive and gives you a nice stable platform to stand on around the edges.

I don’t like heights either, hate working on ladders...but with scaffolding around it’s like adding a nice deck around the edges to stand on.
