I had a Deputy project years ago but didn’t do anything with it. 300HP out of a slant can be done but you looking at either turbo or supercharging to do it. I see lots of reading about either way in your future! Good luck with the project!

Kool project. Far cheaper to do a v8 but I'd like to see how this ends up.

The head is the biggest obstacle in the way of power, but to get power it's all the same cam compression porting intake exhaust, just gonna get less for your efforts but nothing wrong with that but 250-300 hp is possible 200-250 hp is more probable, average results, turbo is an option /6 make good turbo engines. You'd be better post this question under the /6 portion of this site. They give you the info you need.

I have already a 71 fj6 cuda , 5.9 crate engine...im thinking that a 225 b5 blue challenger with 4 or 5 speed, light body and gears can kick *** ahahahah

Good luck with your project!
Turbo or blown are the ways to get that power.
Mild turbo will make the 250-275 without being too radical.

I had a chance in the 70's to buy a Orange 70 Challenger.
It was a friends car and he kept buying alternators.
I felt sorry for him, so I fixed his car.
Back then you just popped the hood and smacked the Electronic Voltage Regulator with a screwdriver. Bingo, charging system fixed! Those early VR's were bad news. They used to sell them at K-Mart for $4.99.
That could have been my $500 Challenger!

No way in the world would I do something non stock to that car. I would restore that every nut and bolt. Do you even know how rare that car is?

Its 1 of 482...dont forget its a 225 3 speed manual , , deputy challenger...i just bought the shell with some few parts , needs a total resto , my cuda is a 2 tag car , 340 4 speed , in my book the 225 challenger is not worth more than 30k for a 60k resto , i have 30k in the cuda and its 70% finished, but this base model challenger will unfortunately never be really valuable if its restored back to stock..i just wanna have fun with it and put it back on the road

A Coupe .... I drove to Seattle and picked one up in the early 90s with a friend . I drove it back to Idaho . I thought the /6 was pretty unique but didnt know about the deputy package . Nice low mile car. Drove great !

You know normally Im not one to really care much for originality on these cars but I'm with Rob on this one, this car needs a 100% stock restoration. These days E-bodies are worth more when they keep their slant sixes vs v8 swapping them. I'm not sure about what modifying the slant would do to the value but I wouldnt do it.

And theres no chance in hell you're gonna get 250-300 hp out of a naturally aspirated slant with good street manners.

What he said
Challengers are not light cars even stripped out slantycars.
Slantys belong in 2800 pound or less cars. Not 3600 pounds plus porkers by the time yur in it with A/C on. Yur gonna need monster gears to go with that clutch, and a close-ratio 4-speed to work with the powerband this beast would require.
IMO the whole idea ..........is, how shall we say it kindly... needs more thought. Howzat?
You wanna 6; use 4.7,Magnum, 5-speed

How to build power with a 225, step by step.

Step one: Remove 225 and sit it in the corner of your garage.
Step two: Install 360 smallblock.
Step three: Done.

I just had a 225 charger built to the hilt. Randy McDowell at Powertech racing in Ashland Kentucky did the work. Power Tech is on Facebook you should check him out. There’s no one else in the United States I would trust to do the Percision work that he does.He can special order everything you need for a slant six. All the top in parts you need to come from Clifford performance. The only thing I would invest in other than that is dutra duels. I think they are better than Clifford headers simply because they are much shorter and easier to fit. If you would like any information from my build just shoot me a PM I’ll be glad to help if I can.

So how about some details?
Did it get into the 250/300 hp range?
What is your weight?
What stall and gears are you running?
What kindof money was spent?
Tell us about what you do with it, how it drives, and if you had it to do over; what might you change.

as we are in the General, I can say this;
As to performance;
I like the 451 idea, also the
stroked 360, also
the supercharger/ turbo ideas.
Even a 5.9 Magnum idea
Anything but smaller than 318.

But as a cruiser, a very mild 225 would be just fine to tool around in. Well except for the characterless zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz of the exhaust. With a slanty I would install side pipes like a AAR car, with 153 on one side and 624 on the other; that should be freaky at 500rpm.

You will need a special hat, eccentric clothing, a pipe in your vest pocket, and golf shoes.lol. And for crying out loud, raise the seats!

I think it’s your money, your parts, your imagination, your car... do what you want with it. Unless somebody else wants to buy it out from under you, do whatever it is you want with it. A Slant 6 In an E-body is cool to see and isn’t going to kill its value.

A white dart with a yellow block? Sounds nice but that is not 250 - 300hp, more like 200 or so.

Clifford oversells the performance numbers on their parts.

Guys guys guys....sincerely i understand thats its rare , 1 of 482 , but it will take 60-70k to make it worth maybe 30k if m lucky , i rather inject i dont know 10k and call it a day and have fun with it . No original engine , no original nothing was included with the car , its a rusted shell and i have doors ,trunk , hood and little body parts , it as still its fender tag but it needs everything , so i want to have fun and wont put a fortune , just wanted to be different, already my 71 cuda will run a 5.9 crate with plenty of power..i was like why not put a slant 6 back into that challenger and kick ***....i was even thinking to put a 3.9 v6 with a 5 speed , but i cant. Need money for sandblast and new sheet metal we will see whats gonna happen , just hope i wont get fed up.and sell it.

That's saying it nicely. You could say they outright lie.
