Good to know it is not just a 67-69 convertible issue. I'm working on a plate to weld or screw behind my existing support, till the car gets a full restore.
If you can get your hands on a trunk support that is in good shape maybe you can do the same, or you can make one in place.
On the convert, there is a sizable flat area that makes making a plate fairly easy.
