What is the diameter of the factory stock 340 A body torsion bars? I think they are either .870 or .890, but I am not certain. I am going to use those, as I don't want something terribly stiff because I plan on running sway bars front and rear. Thanks.

Is the number on the end relevant to the diameter? The tbars I put in mine where out of a 318 car and the numbers are 890 and 891 iirc

.870 OEM 340 A body (318 A/C cars got the 340 bars)
.890 OEM 383 A body

i'm running .920's Rusty and they are not stiff at all.I have used new .890's and i couldn't tell the difference from the .870's if that's any help.

Yes, they are .870". We have run them with a 383 in a '67 Barracuda. That car was loaded, too. It had AC and power steering. With the stock 340 sway bar it drove fine. It wouldn't corner like my son's '67, but it was fine. Both my younger son's Dart convertible and my Barracuda convertible have stock big block torsion bars (.890") and sway bar. Again, they drive fine and handle reasonably well. Both cars have 440s.

One set of numbers on the end is the last three of the part number, older bars have a different number although considered the same part.

I borrowed this chart from somewhere!

.870 are stock 340 bars.

I have front and rear pst sway bars and .870 t-bars; the ride is not really that stiff. I'm actually going to eventually get new rear springs and larger t-bars
