I have a 69 Cuda, originally 318 car with a 360 swapped in it. I had a Frankenstein belt set up which I am swapping to a 70 up double belt ac setup. I have a 71 ac compressor and brackets. I have all the pulleys and bought the Saginaw power steering bracket set for 70 up from Mancini. It all went together well until I tried to put the power steering hose on.

The power steering hose hits the motor mount stand on the drivers side. I have found a couple old threads on this. Not much info. One suggested hacking clearance out of the mount stand and the other suggested a custom made hose. Not really sure what to do. Has anyone else run into this?

The two shiny pictures are my car.

The rusty pump picture is off an old thread and shows the approximate issue. I believe that the old thread had a /6 conversion that caused the issue. Mine is an original 318 on the Vin, but who knows what has happened in the last 50 years.

Your shiny pics dont do us any good l:poke:. I assume pressure hose your talking? The 3rd pic shows the return doesnt it?

The return is ok. It is the high empty nipple in the pic.

In the rusty picture, the pressure hose fitting is the bump below the nut on the back of the housing. No hose installed because it won’t fit with pump installed. I’ll take some more pictures of mine tomorrow.

Ok, I see where it attaches now, thanks. Brackets/pulleys can be a nightmare when not getting matched set. Pic of pump and bracket would help.

Looks like you're only at 1/2 adjustment. Raise the pump up and get a belt to match.

More pictures of the interference.

The first picture has my original Saginaw pump on the left with my original ps hose from the 69 setup.

To the right is another Saginaw pump with the newer style reservoir. The pump outlet is in the same spot on both. As I understand the Saginaw pumps are the same, just the reservoirs are different. Both of these are bolt on pulley type.

I think I have established that the Saginaw pumps are the same across at least the 68-72 years, so that is not my problem. Correct me if I am wrong.

The next two pictures are of the interference with the pump and line from the first picture. The pump itself moves freely throughout its entire adjustment travel without the hose. When the hose is on, it isn’t even close. The hose hits on the both the motor mount stand and the brace that runs forward from it.

These pictures are with the power steering hose I got from O’Reily for a 1971 Dart with a 340 and Saginaw pump. I doesn’t seem to work as well as the 69 hose even.

These are the two hoses side by side. The bottom is the 69 hose.

The top is the 71 hose.

It appears to me that all the 67 - 72 small block K frames may not be the same. I have been cruising the net for pics, I think I have seen variations on the left motor mount construction.

Does anyone understand what is going on here?

Does anyone have some pics of a working setup?

Mike, could you take some photography lessons?

Ha! Obviously not my strong suite. There is no good angle to get down in there. I was using my iPad, & it is a little bulky & I don’t seem to have enough hands to get the light right and take a pic at the same time.

The last picture in the first post is probably the clearest view. Not my picture, must have been taken with k frame out of car

I used this to clear the k-member in my 72 (biscuit-mount). From factory this car came with a Federal pump but has Sag pump out of 87 Fifth Ave. Then had my local Pirtek shop flare 6AN female on the end of a my pressure hose. It just clears and so far no problems.

So, the bolt looking part goes into the pump and the swivel part hooks up to the hose with a new connector?

I have a 68 Barracuda, with a K from a 70Duster 340. The engine is a 71 360 and the Saginaw pump is off a slanty, with brackets off a 73- 318(I think) .

I had the same problems you have.
I cannot recall which hose I used, But I ended up twisting and pulling and shoving that Pump end around until it fit.

Correct. Its just a banjo bolt with crush washers like on a brake hose. You can see my clearance between the head of the bolt and the k-member is just about 1/16". If I was inclined I could probably grind the k down a bit for added clearance.

Thanks! That looks like my answer. I just ordered one.

Hope it works for you. You'll need either a custom pressure hose or modify your stock one. A hydraulic hose shop can flare the AN6 female fitting onto your stock hose if you don't have a 37-degree flaring tool. I had some trouble sourcing steel AN fittings but they'll have them on the shelf. Pirtek are nationwide.

Finally got my power steering pump to fit. Used a banjo fitting as suggested above. Bought a 70-72 slant six hose and had a JIC fitting put on it at a local hydraulic shop ($12 - what a bargain!) Had to bend it around some, but works good now. Also had to hack some metal out of the motor mount stand.

Thanks for all the help guys!
