After 11 years I'm leaving the Home Office (girlfriend). I finally had enough and after getting my financials in order I was ready to move out, but I hadn't found a house, and I need a house, I'm not an apartment type. So I talked with a co-worker who had three properties, and told him I was buying the one closest to me. We agreed on a contract for deed, but his ex shot that down so I got pre-qualified for a mortgage. Then he backed out saying he was sticking to his original plan of selling this one last. Said it might be a year. Ugh.

The next day I bought a Canadian Monaco with a 383 and a 4 speed. Bingo! Daddy's a happy camper! Then I met a wonderful woman at work, so now I'm learning Spanish, and she is learning English as well. I hadn't done anything with her but talk, and I told my ex I was leaving. I had already made up my mind before meeting this woman, but I didn't tell the ex until a week or so ago. I just went out on out in our first date Sunday, and it was great. She brought her son and daughter, they helped translate, and her brother, sister in law, and their daughter came along too.

Back to the house, I was just about to inquire into a two bedroom apartment on the second floor of a house, when my co-worker called and asked if I was still interested, you damn Skippy I am! So I paid off my existing loan on my 401k, and will get another loan to pay for the house. I'll own it free and clear, Day 1. Might lose a little on the back side of my retirement deal, but it will be worth it. It has a nine year old 24x30 garage with 10' high walls. House was re-shingled at the same time, and new windows were installed. Then they just stopped working on the house. I get to take care of a few small repairs, and put on some coats of paint. Until I get that loan, I'm staying with my stepson. Life is good, life is good!

best of luck ! hopeit works out for Ya, life is to short to live in misery.

Glad things are going well for you. Would like to see pics of the Monaco.

Needs a lot of work, but having a fleet of '66 Dodges and three parts cars will make it easier to bring back to it's former glory.

sounds good...but you got me a little confused with the loan and owning it free and clear?

Congratulations for you new life and new house.
hope it doesn't take you another 11 years to figure it out. Good luck

Is that an old stock car, with a window net? I truly hope your lady friend makes you happy, and the extended family doesn't expect to move in too. Sounds like you got the mentioned "reset' button hit. Smooth sailing now.

The 401k money goes to me, then i pay the seller, so it will be in my name with no debt tied to it. I will still have to pay the loan back (it automatically comes out of my paycheck) but it isn't in any way connected to the house. So yes, I will still owe money for five years. Think of it as a personal loan, where they don't care what you spend it on, it's your money, do as you please. But I can go to the bank and get a home equity line of credit for the things the house needs, a couple appliances, some window trim and a few minor repairs. After that I can bank my money and I will be very comfortable financially. The gains for exceed the losses.

No sir, my self diagnostic system has been flashed and I'm all good with my eyes wide open. I know what I want and won't settle for less.

It's just got a smashed front windshield and no side glass.

She does make me happy. We are going to remain friends until I get my life settled down. She has her own place with her children, and if it works out down the road, we will worry about that when the time comes. It's nice to have her in my life, so I'm happy for that alone.

Yep, almost out of the choppy waters!

Thanks Keith, I'm really bummed we can't hang out in Stillwater this year. But, I might actually have the Dart up there next year, 23 years after getting it!

I have my house! Signed papers on Friday, all four or five sheets. Cash deal and closing costs were $305.45, not a bad deal. Took ten minutes and I was on my way.

Went and looked at it last night, I moved my truck over from my storage unit so I could start replacing the water pump and power steering pump, only to find out there is only one light wired up. Plenty of boxes on studs for outlets, but they aren't wired. One more thing on the to-do list.

Here's the biggest project to tackle, and one more reason to fix the truck.

Get that taken care of, then have a co-worker sand the living room floor, it's got paint on it, and is tired looking.

Then paint most of the walls downstairs, and a bedroom upstairs. Buy a fridge and an oven, and the kitchen is done.

For some reason, the previous owner didn't put any trim on the inside windows and door frames, an easy enough fix.

And I need fixtures for all the lights. And there are some other little things that need to be addressed, but nothing big, just little stuff.

The garage is full of a bunch of crap the previous owner left. They left a ton of stuff, which my co-worker cleaned out most of. They did leave some shovels and rakes, along with some other useful things. A lot left to get rid of though.

I’m glad things are looking up, now get your lady friend to fix up the house and you can get the garage in order.

a few weeks and you'll have that place looking like new
i remember when we bought the house we're in now, i had to put the TV up in grandma's room
so i ran the TVcable out there, put a bracket on the wall, right about a blind box
i popped the cover off and hooked an outlet up to the wires
didnt even zap myself (that should have been my first clue)
plugged the TV in...nothing

so i started flicking breakers, looking for other blind boxes, trying to figure out why there wasnt any power to the outlet

finally i broke down and called the previous owner and asked him, where the wire goes thats in the west living room

he goes, oh just up the wall
where does it connect?
well, it doesnt, its just in there

long story short, i ran an extension cord from the other side of the room and tucked it in under the baseboard

one a side note, that thing with the metal wheels would make a killer welding cart

I’m glad things are looking up, now get your lady friend to fix up the house and you can get the garage in order.

you dont think his lady friend is the one who put the cot up for him in the garage?

1st, congrats on a huge change in your life while IMO landing on your feet on a much more solid and stable ground, up higher.
(For those that do not know or have a 401K...)
That 401K loan has a minor percentage point rate that you pay yourself back on. So it is a win win. While the money is always better off in the 401K, this is a worthy use of the money.
(Debt consolidation is another but not advised)

Real estate is the best area to put your money and since you really need a house and not an apartment, this is a huge win for you since the value of the house will rise and more so with improvements and updates to it.

Staying with your stepson speaks volumes about him as well as your relationship with him.

Enjoy fixing up and straightening out the house.
Best of luck to you. Enjoy!
