Hello this is a father son project car in the making, my dad refused to help me as I'm 19 years old and told me to ask the smart guys on here! We have done a mini tub job to this car so it has a 15inch wide tire in the rear and the axle was shortened to accommodate, HOWEVER SINCE THIS JOB the rear axle had a vent i provided in the pictures and it wont stop slowly leaking gear oil any thoughts how to fix this would be much appreciated!

What are the lines running thru it ?? never seen that before on any car or truck---------??

If you have not overfilled it, remember the vent / bolt and hole in the axle is a tapered pipe thread. If the fluid level is at the correct height, then it may be leaking past the threads on the bolt. Try cleaning the threads on the bolt and the axle tube, and use some teflon pipe tape on the bolt threads

I had a similar problem on a car I autocrossed and ran on road courses. I finally pried off the cap and attached a long hose that I ran into a catch can in the trunk.

The 9'' ford rear in my vega did that , I plugged the vent and tapped the oil fill plug and ran a hose , nintied up to above the rear end , took care of it , but was a pain in the drain to check the oil level.

Also the brass Tee block has a curve machined on it that supposed to lay a certain way against the axle tube to fit tight against it. Small detail, easy to overlook. Forget the the metal brake lines attached to it, look at the block itself and make sure the brass block is oriented correctly against the axle tube so everything can bolt down tight with no gaps between the axle tube and the brass block. Note the blue line in the machined radius in the pix that's the direction of the axle tube in relation to the tee block. If it doesnt sit like that against the tube, that creates like a 1/16" gap. Between that and no pipe tape on the both threads, that very well could be your leak issue.

Thank you all so much for your input I will take it out and clean it up and make sure everything sits well and see what happens, always can do the catch can like I saw some other people did but if I don’t have to I’d rather not thanks again. Also it is not over filled.

WELL, If not over filled and keeps puking out (threads of top of the breather) it may be getting too hot.
Brakes dragging, too low oil level or interference internally will cause that issue.
I am hoping it is just a leaking pipe thread. On my computer I cannot see that level of detail.
Keep us posted.

Thank you again for everyones help. Moparmat2000 that was a good thing to point out i did check for a flat spot but did not see much of one, its possible the one of there is wrong from the previous owner ill look more into it. Syleng1 i really hope its not that but also good to know as well. I pulled the vent out this morning and could hear a little pressure seep out, i cleaned up the threads and Teflon taped it, going for a ride now to see if it leaks anymore. Does anyone know if the vent piece can also fail internally?? since its only $15.00 ill order a new one just incase. Thanks again for your help its a great hobby to keep you out of trouble especially in this day in age!
