I'm building up my 71 Demon with a trunk mounted fuel cell that will no longer use the factory fill neck / gas cap. As I do the body work now, my plan was to weld plate over the factory cap location and smooth the panel to omit the cap. Before doing that, just curious if anyone has any other creative/unique ideas of what could be hidden under the factory cap location?

Charging posts? Cutoff switch? Etc.

Thanks

Better check with your sanctioning body rule book. (NHRA, AHRA, etc) There are specifics I am sure.

My vote goes for leaving the gas cap, and instead of a filler tube mount a "can of snakes" inside the quarter panel. Then sit back and watch the fun when a tech inspector checks it out or someone tries to siphon your gas...

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: Perfect !!!!

I was going to use my old gas cap location for the electrical shut off for the Demon. I talked to the NHRA & IHRA tech inspectors, I was told that the shut off had to be on the rear of the car. Mine still has the OFF/ON switch hooked to it, but I put another one on the tail light panel to make them happy. It's a neat installation & conversation piece, it is just for looks though. FYI, I saw one that had a volt meter installed in the hole.

I cut the end off that bolts to the car and jb welded a cap to the end, drilled for a fitting, think I jb welded it to the cap too, hooked the vent from my fuel cell to it and just got a vented gas cap.

No problem:thumbsup: will have to cut and close off the factory vent hole too. Just thought about it.
