Years back, one of the young guns in my neighborhood bought a '65 Fury I that had been a taxi. He bought it with no drive train & I helped him scavenge the wrecking yards for a 440 & 727. He asked for my help so he could install the engine & transmission properly, he actually wanted me to tell him if he was doing it correctly so he could learn from hands on experience. He got it running, so my job was done for the time being. Flash forward 5 years, he is employed with the fire department, going to college, & still making improvements to the car. Flash forward another 10 years, I'm at a bracket race, he walks up & asks me how I've been & we rehash old times. He still has the '65 but now it a dedicated bracket car with a stroked 440 to 572 making gobs of horsepower & a ton of torque. He tells me he's getting the new combination sorted out & hopes to put the car in the low 11's to high 10's. I haven't seen him in a few years now, I'm sure with his grit & determination he will accomplish his goal & then some. Maybe I'll run across him again in another few years.
