I just thought of something, can't say if it applys.
But if your crankcase oil level is too high, the crank picks it up and beats it tochit. This overloads the PCV system, and reduces power drastically.
I used to see it on lawnmowers all the time, where the owner would bring it in for a no-start, and when I pulled the dipstick, there was the story.
Moral of the story I guess, is to check your dipstick calibration.
