Last year I had a shop build me a 727. After having them address issues with the car losing gears on the first drive they said it was losing pressure due to a cracked case. They said they replaced the case and dyno ran it. I’ve put apprx 50 miles on since with no issues due to it getting pulled apart for paint/body work. I noticed the pan leaking so I went under to check torque on the bolts and noticed this glob of silicone, looking a diagrams it is near the rear servo port. Any ideas why it would be present or if it was used for a band aid on a crack, scared to peel it off. Was a bad experience with the shop.

I've heard of some guys smearing some RTV over that pin hole when they rebuild the trans just as an extra protection against a leak. A 'belts and suspenders' approach if you will.

That's at the L/R anchor pin right?
Having said that, a leak there shouldn't affect your gears dropping out.
So they may in fact have changed the case.
Or still might have lied about the case being cracked, as a way of getting paid for a fubar on their part.
If the warrantied it for free, well then who knows what went on.

If you think you had a bad experience with that shop, just wait til you go thru one yourself and realize how easy it is.

That glob probably wouldn’t stop a leak around the pin. But it may have a crack there that they tried to seal up. Kim
