Motors

You are right about that. Maybe its just where I live, but I have had several LS motors come in with a snapped rod, and a couple with spun cam bearings. One of the aluminum blocks with the skirt blown out of it. They weren't all run hard either.

Yep, the blocks are inherently weak at the number 3 main bearing and the cranks don’t have enough overlap for 4 inch or longer arms in them.

The magazine hype is just that. Hype. Ben Strader in the Super Webinar a couple of weeks ago said it took everything they had to make a N/A LS live at 11k RPM. Actually they had trouble much lower than that and had to work up to 11k.

He also said that engine was the first EFI deal that made carb horsepower. Funny thing is the system looked like two Holley carbs, float bowls and all and they injected the fuel where the booster venturi was.

That’s nothing more than a FI carb. It was a tunnel ram deal. EFI has a hard time with making horsepower with a carb. That’s why Holley bought off NHRA to force Pro Stock to run their stuff. Many much better systems out there, so NHRA took the payola to wait until Holley came up with a system, and then forced everyone to EFI and the Holley system.

More than one Pro Stock engine builder has said they miss carbs. I’d bet everything I have if carbs and EFI were allowed to run together, there wouldn’t be many EFI cars on the track.
