This Guy Used Polyurethane Sealant on his Windshield/Rear Window Gaskets

-
The only sealant i use was windshield urethane around the clips and screws for the winshield trim. Other than that nothing

I just put the glass back in mine. I always use a heavy duty clear silicone type sealant. This time I used Lexel.

IF I feel I need to use anything, it's butyl. I was always warned by glass guys to never use silicone- don't remember the particulars, but who am I to argue!

Precision Company does not mention any sealer in their instructions and I don't remember seeing any sealer when I removed the factory glass.

Some silicone sealants are acidic and will cause rust issues over time. I wouldn't use silicone on any part of the body of my car.

The body service manual for 1973 (I downloaded from MyMopar site) calls for sealant in the grooves of the rubber seal, along with a bead of sealant across the top of the cowl. Page 7-2, installation of non-cemented glass. Wonder what sealant they used?

I bet the newer designed gaskets were made to facilitate installation on the line, Glue 'em in and get them on down the line! Gojo (no grit) hand cleaner is a great installation tool, Lanolin makes the (old) rubber slickery and pliable. EZ clean up too. window and lock strips just pop right in. Id do windows again in a heartbeat over a headliner install, F that!

I use the GoJo type hand cleaner for lube when inserting stuff in holes also (right, not the orange gritty stuff). Used to clean my Direct Connection chrome valve covers with the same stuff.
