Hello everyone. This is a crazy question but I have a 72 Dart that I’m restoring and forgot where the transmission lines go to the radiator. It’s a 727 torque flight. They are braided so they look the same. I forgot to mark them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Usually they'll only go on one way. In a downflow radiator the temperature is similar all across the bottom, so it does not matter much if the flow in the cooler is reversed. The front 1/8" fitting is out to the cooler, the rear fitting by the case parting line is the return.

That’s true! In your case of braided lines, it really doesn’t matter. Are you running an additional external cooler?

With braided lines, in and out are the only concern. The factory lines are long and short. It doesn't matter which is in and out, it only matters that it goes in, gets cooled, returns to the transmission. If your adding a cooler, know whichis oput of the transmission. Route to radiator first where it will get cooled down a bit and then onto the external cooler, which should be mounted in front of the radiator to get cooled down further via cold air rushing over the cooling fin's. NOT the other way around. The radiator could re warm the fluid. COULD!

Well both of my connections are on the bottom of the radiator. So your saying it doesn’t matter which line goes where.

I not useing a external cooler w/ it , it shouldn`t really matter , will go in , out and back regardless !

3rd times a charm I hope!

When it comes to the radiator lines, in and out of the cooler. This applies to the factory cooler at the bottom of the radiator OR an external unit.

If you run an external/remote/additional after market cooler, the lines should go through the factory section first, aftermarket unit second, which should be mounted in front of the radiator directly in the wind. A straight line of sight for the air to pass through it.

I did some more research and called the company that built the transmission and they said it didn’t matter. That is if both hook ups were at the bottom of the radiator. So you were right it didn’t matter.

Just hope you don't have any lines like this one we found LOL

Either way will work without an external cooler.

I actually plumbed two ball valves in line, so the fluid only flows through the radiator to gain heat for shorter trips, and they can be lined to only flow through a pair of plate coolers when I am drag racing. That's about the only time my transmission temperature starts to climb above 180*. The rest of the time it barely gets over 150* going through the radiator alone.
