I watched the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch earlier today with great pride. It was great to see American astronauts back in space launched from American soil using a rocket manufactured in America.
If you didn't see it earlier, or just want to see it again, watch with PRIDE...

yep and at at least 90 mil a seat for the ruskie's, not to mention PRIDE !

Boeing is also building an option for launch - not sure when the Boeing system is scheduled for a launch.

I would like to see NASA use SLC 6 at VAFB for at least one manned launch. I have 3 years of my life invested in that place . Boeing, Space X, United Launch Alliance, I don't care

We got done splitting wood just in time to catch it , I was really disappointed , not seeing the recover/landing of the first stage on to the barge !!

I got to see them set a Falcon down at Vandenberg from a great distance away. How in the heck they hit a moving ocean going barge is beyond me. Somebody stayed up a lotta nights and consumed mass quantities of Red Bull to figger that out

personally, i wouldnt mind seeing NASA defunded and the money put toward something useful
having said that, i wasnt around during the cold war and the space race so who knows, maybe thats why i dont care about space travel

Read the first chapter of Ezekiel , space travel aint that uncommon , or new . Remember all he ever had seen prior to that was donkeys pulling carts and horses .

A big surprise for me yesterday was watching the Discovery Channel/Science Channel coverage and seeing Chris Jacobs (OverHaulin') as the host of the launch coverage.

I hear that Vandenberg is on the short list to be the headquarters for the Space Force.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. I haven't seen nor heard any Minuteman rockets in quite a while. They must be letting Quajalene Island heal up some . Tests were a pretty regular occurrence for many years. I think there are 7 space launch facilities out there? No idea how many Minuteman silos.

year before last August my wife and I were down that way. Stopped at Vandenburg at the PX. We saw there was a museum so we set out to explore. Drove out west looking for signs. Got to a bend in the road and there in front of us was a large black painted building, triple wire surrounding it, several roaring security AF types and “Use Of Deadly Force” signs all around the place. Decided that wasn’t the place to ask for directions so we continued on. Didn’t hit any security checkpoints so kept going looking for that damn museum.

we got down to some gantries and decided we must of missed a turnoff so we turned around and headed back toward main base. Never did find find the museum. I did stop by a couple of security police getting fuel for their ATV. I asked them and they didn’t seem to know. I told them how far we had gone and their reply was we weren’t suppose to be down there. They asked for my ID which I showed my retired military ID. They recorded it on their gee wizz machine and told me to have a nice day. Really surprised in that usually AF bases have fairly tight security. May swing down that way again and look for that museum.

Despite all that is wrong in today's world this is so right. Glad we are back on track.... Go USA, go.....

It's an odd facility. Southern Pacific RR goes right through it. AMTRAK station is right outside one of the gates. One of the Atlas sites you can drive within a mile of on county roads and see it very plainly. There was talk about letting the land speed record crowd use the runway they extended for Shuttle landings to play on. A good portion of the base is barely marked as Federal property, let alone guarded. There were some BIG Black Tail bucks out there, seen 'em. One of the carpenters that worked with us was driving his Jag XKE in one morning met one of them, wadded that Jag up like a Bud can at a fraternity party  lucky he wasn't killed. If the tide was real low you could still see remnants of the Honda Point Disaster of 1923.

7 Destroyers turned left at the wrong lighthouse. That's at the beach next to SLC6 the Shuttle complex. Mid September they sposed to launch a Delta IV Heavy out of there, really like to see that one.

Late August.

Hats off to Space X. Glad all went well and America is launching astronauts again!

I kinda figured that black building has something to do with training the Minuteman crews.

Not going to try to change your mind. Just wondered if you knew?
Seems for less than half a percent of the total US budget, the US taxpayers get a hell of a lot for their money.
But I may be biased, lol.

NASA's budget for fiscal year (FY) 2020 is $22.6 billion. It represents 0.48% of the $4.7 trillion the United States plans to spend in the fiscal year. Since its inception, the United States has spent nearly US$650 billion (in nominal dollars) on NASA.

Money well spent, in my book.

That’s because you’re completely ignorant of all the “useful” things we have today that exist because of space exploration and funding.

GPS, most of your hospital scanning equipment, wireless technology, LED’s, memory foam, scratch proof eyeglass coatings, cochlear implants, hand held vacuums, etc, etc all were either developed for or benefitted greatly from space research.
