Started this project of painting the 65 Dart over the last few weeks. Put up a paint booth in my garage. This is the first car

I’ve ever painted. It’s been a great learning experience. I’m almost done! I only have the rear quarter panels and trunk lid to paint. Decided to go with a blacked out front grill versus trying to polish the front grill.

For being your first car it looks pretty good. What kind of paint are you using, base coat, clear coat or?

Exactly! Paint gun $7.50 on sale, paint and supplies $150. Of course 5hp compressor which isn’t cheap.

You will always use that compressor. Me I am a big spender, I plunk down about $35 for my hvlp guns from Summit or TCP Global!!! Works for me!

That is the same gun I'm using I have no complaints. I'm in the process of my first real paint job too and it's coming along nicely. I'm using that hf purple gun I bought 3 of them one for primer, paint and clear. I also got the paint gun stand and some filters I think it was 50 bucks or something. I'm using a 21 gal 2.5hp compressor. Keep up the good work it looks great. I really like your booth I'm gonna copy that idea when I start spraying the outside panels. Iv already got some 2x4s to frame it in.
 
How many gallons did you use to cover your car? How many coats?
 
Looks great tad. Look forward seeing it all put back together. I also have used the purple HVLP gun it’s not bad at all.

It was a little bit less than a gallon. I actually went down to the local paint store and just asked if they had anything that was left over or extra. They had a gallon of this blue. $45. I probably used a lot more than normal. Learning I ended up making mistakes or mixing too much. So could probably paint a car with less than that.

I used a little more that half a quart I'd say probably 2/3 a quart of my base on the door jamb and engine bay alone. It mixes 1 to 1 so that's a little under half a gallon just in those two areas. I'd say you did extremely well to paint the whole car with less than a gallon
