I still have one of the towel rollers for my use at the home shop. When it gets dirty, I take it off & to the local coin op laundry, wash & dry it, then rewind it for another 2-3 months usage. For my personal use, it's less expensive than paper towels.

i worked at a manufacturing place
all sorts of heavy machinery, welders, roll formers, brake presses, the works

at some point the owner had calculated the cost of paper towels, or shop rags, compare to clothing from the local goodwill store

so every two weeks or so he had 2 big totes of clothes from goodwill brought in, and we used those as shop rags
