Mine did the same thing once. I changed the throttle control module and seemed to fix it. But last night it would not go into reverse right but I did get it to back out of the space. But going down the road it would not shift into drive. I shut it off and started it again and it ran perfect! Frank? What do you suggest here?

Neon too? There is a switch on top of transmission,prndl switch.
They can go bad,and tcm doesent know what gear its in. Also a solenoid pack on the front of transmission,they are prone to failure as well. Scan tool is necessary to determine whats going on.
The pt cruiser i bought cheap supposedly needed a transmission. Trans shop diagnosed it. I found the controller in the fender had corroded through and water/road salt got in it and killed it. $40 for a used one and it worked perfectly until my daughter destroyed the car.
