Most people who bought slant 6 Darts were either like my Dad (who went with the A904), or didn't want to spend more money for a manual (used to driving 3-on-the-tree and, since this was the economy engine, buy the cheaper version)...or didn't want a floor shifter (bench seats were great for dates...especially with a little armor all ;-))
I suspect the part of the market who wanted 4 speeds also went with the 273 or 273 Hi-Po
