No. Won't clear the torque convertor or flywheel, whichever you have.
On an auto, if you unbolt the flexplate from the torque converter, I'm pretty sure it can stay put. If pulling the engine out the top of the car.
 
But if you don't take the starter off, you can't take the dust cover/inspection plate off...? How would you unbolt the torque convertor?

My dust covers are either missing or modified on my cars. I don't have to pull a mini starter, and pretty sure I even left a full size in there.
 
That’s what I was just looking at going why du xxxx not save a lot of swearing later. Maybe we’ll see

Okay, in that case I'd have to agree! But if he's got the dust shield in place yet, everything would have to come off.
 
If you don't have a dust cover, and if you unbolt the flex plate from the TQ, then yes, the starter can stay put. Done it many times that way
