Anyone here any experience with the Ultradyne SFT cams in a big block. Want to try one in a 12.5:1 511. Thanks

Bullett makes them now..Its not Ultradyne anymore..That 640 solid is a good grind if you have a decent set of heads..It also depends on what you're going to use the car for..If it's strictly a race only car you can go one route..If it's a street car you can go another.

Im using Cnc mw edelbrock heads. Street/strip with mostly street. Just ran a 10.06 and looking for more.

If your converter is loose enough I'd try that 650 lift Comp Cam..It pulls like a bear from mid range on up.

If your talking about the old Mcandless CC.290@.050-.650/.650 I ran that back in 1990 in my '69 race only 440 all iron motor Cuda with just 10:1 and a 4800stall, it ran great, ticked over@900rpm, pulled real hard from around 4500-7400 so in a 511 that has the right CR it should work well, that would like being installed in@105 according to the cam gurus in that size motor....you may also get away with premium pump with that very late closing intake......We got a guy running that cam in a 512ci Dart that runs 8.90's on alchohol.

I would think that 290@50 would need 14:1 to really shine.

Drag Race 290/290 Solid Flat Cam (3 Bolt) for Chrysler 383
I ran that in a stock 440-6pk bottom end with BV 906 heads approx 265cfm only, a crap Team G Dom intake and an 850DP+2" spacer with 2.1/8th" hdrs and it made an honest 530fwhp on track NA, nothing amazing but it ran real well....and I had 4.88's and 14x32's.

Whats the part number for that 290 cam?
Herb McCandless highly praises this cam..I remember him saying quote " if they aren't beside you at mid track they're not going to catch you" ..That 650 actually performs as well as some roller cams..When it's idling it's a real **** talker too..I've heard them in some of my friends cars and running it along in high gear and you can hear the overlap still at 3,000 rpm's...If I'm not mistaken Herb McCandless designed that cam..

Sounds like it works quite well. Justs goes against what I learned with over camming. Usually nothing bigger than 270@50 with 12.5:1 or its over cammed. not sure why that cam works do well with lower compression.

Most everyone I know that has run it has 12.5-13.5 compression and a decent set of heads..Going to a bigger cam like that will probably kill a little cylinder pressure but it's a puller on the big end.

That Bullet 640 is a good cam too..The old Ultradyne that Bullet is making now..It doesn't have quite the duration that the 650 Comp has.

My mate ran a 440 Dart with the MP.590 sft 270+@.50 with 12.7:1CR with 320cfm MCH Eddy's...that cam was done at around 6700 in the traps. A little thinking outside the box can work wonders, I offered him that .650 cam that was still around for no money, shame he didn't take me up on it he would've gone in the 9's with it from 10.1's. Another Mopar racer standing by the car reckoned he'd go slower with it, and when I asked why he thought that, there was no answer, typical attitude of racers over here, and this was the same guy thats running it today going 8.90's!!......they think they know there **** but know jack, I'm not a guru by any means but its not rocket science to figure things out.

No guru here either, just a hobbiest. My thought was more low end grunt was needed as the first 330 of the track has always been said to be the most important. I just might give than cam a try.

If you choose to run the Comp Cam let me make one suggestion.Get them to nitrite the cam..You need all the insurance you can get breaking a cam in as we all know..I get all of mine nitrited and break my cams in with only the outer valve springs installed along with Comp break in additive..I believe Comp charges around 100 bucks to nitrite one..

Yes, I always do and run the comp EDM lifters as well. I just called comp cams to get all the specs on that cam. Its super aggressive with 200* duration at .200 lift. My current cam is 180 and the Ultradyne is 185*. thanks for the info
