Stop in for a cup of coffee

What was your damage last night Dave?
Last night wasn’t too bad and no new damage other than some small broken tree branches. I had to go recover some of the solar lights from the side yard that blew over. At least the living room roof didn’t leak again after the repair.

I just don’t want to go through that crap like we had the day before with the derecho storms again. That was just plain wicked.

Did this one today after taking a long break from doing images because of the eye strain from my fubar left eye. It was a struggle to get it done and it gave me a headache. I think I will refrain from doing any more until this eye gets better.

Sometime people don’t understand that the Pharmaceutical Industry is kinda like the Military.

Here when you need us and generally forgotten and maligned otherwise.

Hundreds of thousands of highly trained and experienced science professionals who can bring their expertise to bear rapidly when needed. All we need is a target and funding and then... just get out of our way and stand by.

Example...

“Effective vaccines for the novel coronavirus will do a world of good in helping us manage future outbreaks. As long as a substantial portion of the population is protected, the virus won’t spread as quickly.

But we’re not placing all our eggs in the vaccine basket. More than 130 vaccines are currently in development, but several other labs have been working on monoclonal antibody therapies that work just like plasma transfusions from COVID-19 survivors.

The plasma treatment works, but it’s cumbersome. Hospitals need volunteers, and donors need to match the patients. That’s where the new drugs come in. Monoclonal antibody drugs deliver antibodies that are known to be effective against the novel virus. But these components have been grown in a lab, and don’t require donors.

Sorrento announced a few weeks ago that one of its antibody candidates can prevent the virus from infecting cells. The company is back once again this week with a similar finding, saying that it has a second compound that can block the infection in lab testing.

The new drug candidate is called STI-4398, and it will be used in a future Sorrento drug called COVIDTRAP. It’s a proprietary ACE2 (angiotensin-converting enzyme 2)-Fc fusion protein, which can produce a “soluble SARS-CoV-2 virus-binding decoy receptor protein” that can bind to the spike protein of the novel coronavirus. The idea is to block SARS-CoV-2 from linking with human cells and to neutralize the infection. Without infecting cells, a single viral copy can’t multiply itself, and the immune system can clear the pathogen faster.

Sorrento on Friday announced that STI-4398 completely inhibited the novel coronavirus’s ability to infect African green monkey kidney epithelial cells (VERO/E6) at low concentration.
“STI-4398 COVIDTRAP protein and STI-1499 neutralizing antibody have shown efficacy in an in vitro cellular infection model for SARS-CoV-2 established in our laboratory, and these results justify now the progression into animal studies. We are planning to submit all preclinical data for scientific publication in the next two to three months,” said Dr. Slobodan Paessler, whose lab conducted the preclinical testing.

The company has discussed the new drug with the Food and Drug Administration and has received guidance for clinical trials for STI-4398, COVIDTRAP, for both treating infected patients and prophylactic use.”

Those of us who have spent decades in this business are not surprised by these things...in fact we are dismayed that the red tape and lack of funding inhibits us from performing at our best. With it only now being just loosened a tiny bit in this crisis, the talking head speak of how amazingly fast the progress is.

They have no freaking clue what could be done, and at what speed, if they would just GTFO of our way.

That moment when, as your dozing off after barely sleeping the night before, that your wife springs a “screw it, I’m taking vacation next week, let’s run away With the kids to the nearest beach in the middle of a virus and protests trip “

Do you have to? Good chance there will be difficulties. Places aren't fully open, or fully staffed, protesters getting in your way, etc.

Yeah, she wasn’t this damn dumb.

we’re gonna discuss it in the morning. I’m against it. I mean, I get it, it’s been two years since she’s last taken a vacation day and that was when she broke her leg. And we were supposed to go to the beach back in April, virus forced that to cancel. So I get her desire to go, but to me, not safe, even if they did honor my CCW permit, it’s still risky with the virus and protests.

Did you see my previous reply about those wipers?
