Need a new air compressor

-
I got an omega about 6-7 years ago,3hp i think. I dropped a few bucks on a decent gun for my sandblast cabinet, made a big difference in air consumption.
I know itsa bottom of the barrel compressor, but it does all i need it to. I have a second air tank in the next building with the line buried. But quite a small line.
My needle scaler uses a fair amount of air, and i dont think i will ever use it in my shop again. That exploded rust pollutes every nook and cranny of the entire shop.
My compressor gets fresh air pumped into a cabinet through an air filter.keeps noise down and cabinet doesent get too hot as air is constantly moving through.

Take a look at Eaton Compressors. I have a 13hp Honda powered on my service truck and a 5 hp single phase in my equipment shop. Great compressors and very nice people to deal with. You can call Matt Cain the owner or Meagan South his daughter and both will fix you up. I have a T30 Ingersoll in car shop here at house. I would go with either of these again, Joe

I like the 5 year all included warranty. I think I will call them. Plus they make a horizontal which I like.

Whatchya gonna do with the old one, Roy? I think the tank on my big outside one has a lot of rust on it.

Well I thought I’d try and get a few bucks out of it on Craigslist. Like 300.00. Still works good and handles everything other than my blasting cabinet. I had the 5 hp motor rebuilt 2 years ago.

It's single stage 220v?

Menards is selling this one right now. Pretty reasonable and it fits your criteria pretty well except that is a vertical type. I have one very similar to this one and I like it a lot.
Masterforce® Belt Drive 60-Gallon 155 PSI Stationary Electric Vertical Air Compressor at Menards https://www.menards.com/main/p-1444439609007.htm

Looks like you don't have a Menards near you. But you could order online. Not sure what shipping charges would be.

I think Speedaire still makes decent compressors. Not sure if they are still made in USA though.

Ahh the sales literature trick.... listing a high pressure of 175psi. The uninformed folks would think it’s a great air compressor (compared to the 100psi rated unit beside it) without realizing hardly any tools require 175psi and free air delivered is a lot lower at that pressure compared to 100psi. Plus cranking your pressure up exacerbates cfm lost to leaks. There’s not much need to operate any system above 100 psi unless you’re blowing PET bottles or the odd application that requires 125 or 140 psi.

Some peeps then get lured by the crazy cfm ratings too. A good rule of thumb for a piston compressor is no more than 4cfm/hp at 100psi. 15cfm from a 2hp compressor at 90 or 100psi isn’t going to happen.
Here's a Champion rated at 19 cfm @125 psi. Quincy has rated their compressors at higher pressures for a long time. I don't know the reasoning other than the numbers are bigger and it looks more impressive. https://www.tptools.com/Champion-5H...MIs_yN2pzv6QIVBNbACh0oAQRXEAQYAiABEgLSkfD_BwE

The Quincy 5hp is rated at 17.7 cfm’s at 90 psi on Northern Tool website.

You’re right. General public thinks a higher pressure is better. A 600hp car sounds great but it doesn’t mean much if it has 195/60/R15 all season tires. Can you apply the 600hp for long with those tires? Nope. Does you impract wrench need 175psi? Nope. But folks think a higher pressure will provide better performance for their tool (do the job quicker, brag to their buddies?) when the impact wrench only requires 90 to 100psi. The tool internals will need to be replaced sooner for no reason. Much like the 195/60/R15 tires won’t last long under 600hp. Plus the cfm rating of the compressor decreases as pressure increases which means the compressor will be operating more for no reason. And piston compressors are not meant for continuous/lengthy duty cycles. So new compressor internals will be needed sooner for no need.

cfm is what matters and the quincy delivers what they say. The cheaper compressors tend to rate their cfm at 90 psi so it looks better than it really is.

Usually single stage compressors are rated at 90psi and 2 stage are rated at 175. The two stage compressors store more volume in a given tank size and can be regulated down to 90 psi. The pressure rating is not just marketing.

This the one I have. Ask for Matt or Megan and they will help you out' It is good to call a company and be able to talk to the owner or his daughter. They will do what they say.

Hey can you tell me exactly how tall the whole unit is? I need to see if I’m going to have to raise the Lean to I have over my existing compressor.
