I think all of my studs are intact, but were they ever threaded? I have no clips on any of the studs, so wondering what was originally holding the grilles on, or what might now work considering the condition of the studs?

These are barely hanging together right now.

From what I remember from my 69 they where little plastic studs that get melted down like a rivet then the other chrome piece is put on and when I rebuilt my grills and replace the outer chrome piece I just used JB weld and some clamps to put it back together. and with the chrome piece back on the car and tight it held everything together. I hope this helps it has 35 years since I did my grills

Oh on the studs that hold the grill to the header panel yes they are speed nuts. I thought you needed to hold the brackets to the plastic frames.

Looks like they should have speed nuts.

Does it look to you guys like there is enough “meat” for the speed nuts to grab? or I could JB Weld the studs to fill in the skinny areas of the studs... then thread the speed nuts on?

I’m assuming I would get the 3/16” not 1/8” speed nuts.
