I have an 18,000 mile 5.7 out of a 2014 Challenger.

I also have. '97 Ram 4x2 swb that has been my daily driver for 11 years.

Just wondering about doing a swap. Most concerned with the wiring issues if I keep the ECM.

Might just give it a carb and MSD6.

Thoughts?

I want to do the same thing eventually. I love my 2nd gen rams but would love to have a newer hemi In one I'm following along!
I'm curious about the carb idea what aftermarket intakes are available for the 5.7 hemis to do a carb conversion?

Just get an 05 ECM and a harness from Hotwire. It will run better than carbed. Just tell them what transmission your using. An 05Ecm will run about 75-100$$$$. The harness about $1300. The carb and intake and control will cost you more. Your current fuel pump may be enough to run it. I have no idea what fuel pump is in a 97. Call Hotwire, Chris will tell you what you need. Keep your original harness for everything but engine HOMEmanagement. Your dash instruments may be a challenge. Give them a call he can answer everything for you.

Can't I use the original Challenger harness? I doubt I'd spring for $1300 for a harness.

If you can separate the pins on it and delete what you don’t need. Your intake and carb are gonna run that much and you will spend more than that deleting the MDS

I have a carb....the intake is $650 or less. MDS delete is just unplug the wiring and leave the plugs in place. The MSD6 box is $550.

I don't see why I couldn't remove what I don't need in the harness. Im no whiz with wiring but I have installed new wiring in several hot rod projects over the years, wired my stock cars, etc. I kind of plod along but can get it done. Got to be someplace to help....

I'm just not a guy that whips out the plastic and buys stuff if I can make or me drive fy my own. Social security doesn't pay that well!

Lots of ideas and info even if you don't buy their kits.

A couple of things to consider.
You can mod your harness for use, but be prepared to spend some long nights with the service manuals and wiring diagrams.
Use the Challenger PCM, the early ones don't allow for MDS or VVT. You will need the PCM reflashed to eliminate anti-theft, to ignore the lack of a signal from an ABS, body, and transmission computers. Depending on your setup and who does the flash, you may be better off just having them eliminate everything but basic engine controls, if possible- PCMs vary by year and equipment, I'm not sure on yours. Hotwire does reflashing, as do others- years ago I used these guys: Auto Computer Performance, ECM, ECU, PCM, engine computer, auto computer, ecm repair, pcm repair, ecu performance programming margate,FL
More recently, it seems there's a lot of late model tuners around to do reflashing. Check around.
Yours is later than ones I've dealt with, I'm not up on the MDS and VVT workarounds.
Your truck instrumentation can still be used by "T"ing in standard sending units next to the ones required by the PCM.
Oh, yeah- if you stay FI you'll need the Challenger (or Hemi truck) drive by wire gas pedal.
What are you thinking of running for a tranny?

I'd use my stock trans...not sure what model it is.

If I have to mess with all this computer junk I'll just carb it and be done with it.

Way too complex than it needs to be...I'll use the existing trans so I don't have to change anything there.

I have a set of LS engine mounts that I can use with early Ford biscuit cushions. Same bolt pattern on the Hemi and LS.

I can fab my own mounts on the xmember.

I'm just spitballin here...if it's more than a G-note to do it I'll just rebuild my current 5.2.

It would be cool to see done. But, it's probably gonna be more than a G-note. Hemi 6 boxes have gone up, around 500-550 now. Harness for said box is 240-260ish. Plus the intake you already mentioned. Give 'er hell! It's only money, right?!

There are a couple of guys who have done this on the dodge Truck hemi swap Facebook. Tons of info on there. Also a site called DIYHemi.com that has pinouts for making your own harness. Not sure if they are finished with there newer offerings.

Thanks guys....just thinking about this for a winter project. Right now I'm up to my ears in my dirt car rebuild.
