Valve springs for howards cams

Keeping the cam short on duration will be in your favor with that shortblock. Your plan seems solid with the good flowing heads. For reference, I had a low compression 318 shortblock in my tow rig, and for highway towing (3.55 gears, 727 trans.) at 2500ish RPM, I used the old Cam Dynamics 272 Energizer (216*@.050"/.454") with "302" heart chambered iron heads with 360 valves. The tight LSA (110*) and short duration really made it punchy. Your heads will like that extra lift and the cubes can utilize that duration. I bet it provides grins!

Old Red & White. <sniff>

woah
did you ever figure your compression with the smogger shortblock
that last cam you mentioned would be a real dog till you got it wound up which would not happen with a stock converter and 340 gears
even yor first choice is going to be a big cam for your combo but it will out torque that last cam
but you live out in the wide open spaces
I take it you have the non hp cpnverter
keep us posted
do not go nuts on thr springs you are not building a bracket racer
I would recommend lube saver style lifters

I figure 9 to 1 with .039 head gasket and pistons.040? In the hole I was planning on a converter change. I want drivability
I was trying to make the best of the head flow.
I can always back off to the comp xe or he 268. This is my first foray into an engine build and I don’t always take the”give and take”into account .
@Wyrmrider
What cr would be adequate for that cam
Learning more every day

do we know real cr?
with al heads and that 267 cam some woul go 10:1
if daily driver and 87 octane try 9
hp does not go up much with cr but driveability does
keep the quench tight if piston deck is sent- makes more difference than 1/2 point of cr
if you have to back- go to the voodoo 268 better than comp 268
so you have two good choices for 268 class cams
do show your cr calcs
cheers

I used the stock springs off of the Eddy head. 120 closed. 300 open@ 1.800. Shimmed to 1.900 for break in. 90 on seat. 275 open. The same exact cam u have. It’s in at 104. Kim
