dragged the old grayco parts washer out today and after i put a new electrical cord on it,clean it out, i will be ready to fill it up with........ what are you using. napa has 5 gal bucket of parts washing cleaner. we used to use diesel fuel or kerosene and add a can of gunk to it to take the smell away. if apple cider vinegar or white vinegar would take off grease/oil, would that work or is vinegar too flammable? what say you cleaning experts.

We use Varsol , and gloves that stuff is hard on your kidneys .

Make friends with a local garage owner & see if you can purchase some SafetyKleen from him. It can be a bit pricey but worth it in my opinion. I rigged up a diesel fuel filter & plate. As the pump picks it up, it runs through the filter the filter lasts me about a year before I have to change it.

No more safety clean in Canada or at least where I am :(

I bought my parts cleaning solvent from tractor supply. Its good stuff, comparable to the old safety clean.

I use the NAPA stuff in the 5-gallon jugs. It works just fine but wear gloves, it will stink you up for days and it's hard to wash off.

I also did a better pump, and outside filter.

I use a product called Oil Eater. It's a concentrate you mix with water. Non toxic, environmentally friendly....all that, so I just knew it would suck. Guess what? It doesn't suck. It works pretty good.

I just use diesel fuel. Wear rubber gloves. Smells rough but at $3.00 per gallon pretty cheap and disposal with waste oil.

that .99 yellow degreaser works like a charm but its a little strong odor wise. Hey, a buck a bottle aint bad. Purple power works great too but $$. I'd not even attempt vinegar, too caustic. Go to a petroleum distributor, they sell it (solvent) by the gallon, IIRC it was $8 a gallon in bulk 2 years ago. We got heavy truck support here in Long Beach due to the port. They sold ATF and diesel motor oil by the gallon as well, BYOB....They would fill a 5 gallon paint bucket for you. My old friend used mineral spirits, didn't work real well as I remembered.

Yup, good stuff, use it all the time in my little washer!

Mineral spirits work but has a much lower flash point and also smells up the garage.
I would stay away from the eco friendly water based crap. We changed our one at work to it and about two months later the washer was rusted through and leaking.

Same as the old Hydra Seal carb 5 gallon tanks with the basket. Worked great, but was replaced by environmentally safer crap that is just that. CRAP

A yellowish clear cleaner from the Dollar tree store called "awesome"...
That and a couple of Dollar tree toilet brushes and your cleaning engine parts....
...

^^ see post #11 for my .99 option, you save a penny at .99 over Dollar tree! (well, its actually 99.9 now, and half the store is over a buck now?) Fools sell 2 sizes for the same price: the spray bottle and the larger 'refill'. Take a big wiff of that and it will take your breath away literally.

Same here but I also added a heating element to mine. What a difference.

I purchased the parts cleaning solvent from tractor supply. (42.99 for 5 gal.) It smells like mineral spirits.....
For me, it works well. but in honesty the only other cleaner I have used is kerosene.

excellent idea!
the heated solution will clean better.

How did you incorporate the heating element?

Getting far away from the old school solvents/cleaners will extend your life.:)
