How do you keep the corrosion from building up on the battery tray and inner fender apron ? i have a battery tender on over the winter months and have noticed a build up of corrosion on the battery tray and down the side of the battery case i have a extra heavy ground cable but still have a mess !

Your battery tender is boiling the acid out it sounds.

yep, or your battery has a small crack in the case.

I know you have a battery tender on but you do not say which one. Battery tender brand name is very good. Now Harbor freight have 2 that are garbage and would do what happened to you. Their best one is the Viking maintainer.

Walmart had the best price I found on the Battery Tender brand charger & it works great for me.

A sealed battery might have a different charge voltage. Some smart chargers have settings for flooded lead acid AGM and gel VRLA. I think AGM and gel float lower, around 13.5V. Something to think about if your cars regulation is running high. Then there are smart batteries with charge and discharge management built in. Might be time to readup up battery, and use voltmeter and monitor what charger is doing.
As others suggest, some chargers are junk, unregulated. In the summer my line voltage reads up to 132V, instead of more typical 117V. An unregulated charger will run high too.

I dont know how the red and green felt washers under battery terminals work but they do. I dont use a battery tender though. I just fire it up every 4 to 6 weeks and let it run a while. Advance auto gold series battery is about 8 years old. Felt washers replaced a few times. .
