After a lifetime of waiting, I just bought my first classic car

SWEEEET! The right kind of insurance is a must. The one like yours ( only red ) to visit me was purchased from Hagery Insurance after the previous owner stuck right front to a bridge while being silly. The heavier nose will get away from you quicker than small block or slant 6.
If you want it to handle more like anything and everything else you have driven over past 25 years... Todays aftermarket suspension parts can get you there. Otherwise, turn those horses loose only in a straight line. These old girls could (and some did) get the muscle of but not the handling/control of todays vehicles. Macpherson strut changed the world, especially for unibody.
What Is MacPherson Strut Suspension And Why Is It So Popular?
Do share some details like what brakes it has under it, what diameter stabilizer bar, etc,, as opportunity comes about.
And by the way... Slant 6 is notorious for poking the #5 rod through left side of block.
happy moparing
Thanks! Wow, you guys are all over it. You are the second person to reinforce my short list (first was getting rid of the bench seat). I'm all about modernizing the suspension. I will post some specs as I go through it. It does at least have factory discs in front and seems to stop well, at least on dry, straight pavement. I'll try my best to keep it between the gutters in the meantime.

Good late model shocks, sway bar & good front tires will help without breaking the budget.

I regret removing the bench with fold down arm rest from my 67 notch. I forfeited my comfort and good amount of my money to gain another little storage compartment and another ash tray in otherwise useless center console. Mine is automatic though. If it had been bench with 4 on the floor I don't think I would have changed it.

Welcome to the site, and thanks for the compliments.
Enjoy the car and fix it up to your tastes as you go, and enjoy it.
I measure my fun in smiles per gallon......

Welcome, awesome looking ride!
I really think you made the right choice, get your cake and eat it too! Enjoy it while you decide what you want to address first to make it what you want. Far too often people get overwhelmed in big projects and lose interest.

Bench seat rules!

Welcome from Ohio, and congratulations on that rare car.
I just got my 69 Barracuda on the road again. Please keep posting pictures.

Cheers,
Wolfgang
