360 rear main seal - Different PN for different years?

Ordered a rear main seal from summit, said it fit 360 up to 91.

I've got it in hand, and there's a few issues, I checked SCEs website, and the PN says it's for 74-91. I know the #3 main thrust face changed in 74, but was there a change to the #5 main cap and seal as well?

1. Seal ends won't meet, ever. The seal half's are too short to meet the split line on both pieces.

2. My #5 cap doesn't have the grooves for the "wings" on the seal. I found pics of another guy with a cap similar to mine, so it's not a mistake, but most of the ones I found are cast and machined different.

Thanks. I was pretty sure it was the wrong seal, but it had the right PN on the package, and it's supposed to be for a 360 not a 318/340. So if it's wrong, SCE packaged it wrong.
 
i had a bunch of problems with rear main seals. viton seal solved it. hope it works out for you.
 
Can you tell us the SCE part number you were trying to use, or post a picture of the package that shows the seal part number if you have it.
 
SCE 16905. I can post a picture of the package tomorrow. It says on it, 360 up till 91. Checking their site, it says 360 74-91. But I think they have their details mixed up and it's for a 273-340. They could have packaged it wrong, but I have no way to know.

Summit also shows a PN 16904, and I know there's something wrong on that one, they claim it fits both a 318 and a 360.

Summit wouldn't take it back, so free for the cost of a flat rate envelope to someone with something other than a 360 to try it on.
