Hey guys and gals I have a few questions about my masters cylinder. Numer one is there anything I can put on it to keep it from rusting? I dont want to paint it as i want it to look original and i know brake fluid will eat it off anyway. I was thinking maybe spray it down with wd40 or paint it with Motor oil something like that. Has anyone ever tried that?
2nd and this may be dumb one. But can you bench bleed the cylinder while in the car? Just using the pedal plunger? I'm familiar with bench bleeding them if always done it with a long screwdriver and a vice. Plug the holes until no more bubbles come out. But wouldn't it be the same thing using the pedal? Or is it not long enough? Thanks guys.

yup, works great , unless you dump brake fluid on the new paint  not sure what you mean "plug the holes", i have an old set of brake lines i took out of the junk yard, and bent them to empty back into the MC

I've "bench bled" them while in the car without any problems at all. Just be careful how fast you depress the pedal of you can have a big mess and more than you bargained for in the paint removal category...lol. With the hood up you can view it between the hood and cowl until all the air is expelled. I place lots of rags under that section of inner fender just in case there's a spill over.
I've never seen an aftermarket stock type MC painted but have used WD40 on a rag and wiped it every so often to keep that cast looking fresh. Not sure if that's the best method but it's one way.

That is one way of doing it. I was taught by an old timer that use to run a garage near my house to plug the holes the brake lines go into and compress the piston bubbles will come out the holes inside of the reservoir. You slowly keep pumping until the piston can't be pumped anymore. And there is no more bubbles in coming out of the reservoir. Iv heard of the other way with the tubes that go back into the reservoir but I've never done it that way.

Another question. I'm having a terrible time finding the right fitting for the front hole on the master cylinder. I bought a kit that came with all the fittings but the one 9/16 it came with will not work. It's like the threads are too short. The one that came off of it looks like the one on the first pic. The 2nd pic is the one I have now. That will gets tight before the line is tight. But I can't find one like the first one in the correct size it's a 9/16×18. I can only find it in a 9/16x20? What gives?

Oh, I would paint your Master but I use wd 40 to spray my inboard boat motor all over a couple of times a year to keep it fresh looking and from rusting.

The special one is a 9/16-20 Inverted Flare Tube Nut for 3/16 Brake Line Tubing. Inline Tube has them. (If you actually need a 9/16-18 you have a very strange master cylinder, and you'll need an Allstar Perf. adapter #50115).

I was going by dormans specs It may be a typo. I ordered I ordered one from inline tube we will see if it works.
