Last week I was over a buddy's house helping him disassemble his 18 spline A-body 4-speed in order to send out the gears to Liberty to be faceplated.
He owns a 1969 GTS that he bought from another friend of mine's estate a few years back. The Dart was originally a 383 4-speed, but was turned into a drag car back in the mid 70s. It was then parked in the mid 80's until 2014 when it was sold to its now current owner.
We had pulled the side cover off the trany in January and found out that it had been set up with "Pro Shift" gears.
The next surprised was when we fully disassembled it last week and found what we believe to be "Herb" McCandless's name engraved on several of the internal parts.
I had heard in the past that the car had been sent down to McCandless's shop in the 70's to have him set up the suspension and do "other work", but I really never knew if there was any truth to the story. So I guess now that it actually maybe true.

That still looks really good for a used drag race transmission. I'm hoping the plan has changed to just checking and cleaning up the pro shift sliders and dogs.

Liberty contacted him right after they received the gears and told him he should have left it as it was. He is probably spending unnecessary money on the faceplate modification.

Still cool to find those parts! I sent a clutch pedal to Herb years ago. They had a mod to add 1 inch to the pivot side of the pedal. You should check under the dash and see if the top has been cut and welded. I also bought the last factory MOPAR slick shifted A cased hemi box he had.

I finally got a chance to stop by my friend's garage to see the finished product from Liberty gear. There was about a two month delay having the work done due to the pandemic.

faceplating is the way to go . the old deal does not last. in 1975 suzuki invented faceplating - I could ride a wheely shifting from first to fourth gear on my rm125

No bad for what you get.
I do agree with Liberty, his trans looked good, but I think the faceplate works better.
Thanks for the price info.
