Slow build 71 Scamp 440

Well a discouraging find today. I knew when I bought my rear end that it was sitting out side and not protected. Hell I got a good deal on it and when I cracked it open, it was even a better deal seeing that it was a sure grip unit with 3:55’s. Today I took to cleaning it. Take off gasket and residue. Sprayed down the inside with brake cleaner as the last owner packed it with grease. After a few minutes of cleaning I began to re-lube all the bearings and gears to keep the rust at bay. Well as I was spinning her I came across a fatal spot. It appears she settled in some water and the ring gear At the low point has rusted with some pitting. Good news is I’ll be sending it out for a complete overhaul when the time gets nearer. At least the sure grip unit is clean and tidy along with the housing. New bearings, ring and pinion.
