Is it necessary and/or helpful to switch over to high volume oil pump when you install a dual remote oil filter setup on a stock small block with mild heads/cam?

I use HV pumps on all my builds. You are increasing the amount of oil in the engine. A HV pump is the way to go. 65'

What oiling mods are you making that consume oil volume?
Filter(s) consume nothing.

I'm adding a remote dual filter setup for a couple of reasons, mainly because I'd like as much cold oil on start up to be actually filtered as possible instead of being bypassed.

I don't ever use hv oil pumps on tight clearance bearings or stock engines, never found it necessary. But, with the addition of the extra filters and tubing I read that it was a good idea. Since I don't know much about volume changes and when they are necessary, thought I'd ask

If that’s what you want, buy a Systems 1 filter and take the bypass out.

All those lines and hoses and fitting are a HUGE pressure drop.

I use HV pumps on all of my engines, there is really no need for dual remote filters. If you start doing the math, each oil change will cost you 2 filters & an extra quart of oil. Personally I see no redeeming reason to run dual filters unless you are running a big stroker with a very high stall converter & trying to street drive it.

A stock volumn pump with larger id pu will outflow a HV with a stock id pickup.
Are you using a larger id pickup?

I am considering dual remote filters on my 440 motorhome for cooling and extra capacity . A switch to a HV pump may not be a bad idea in my case.

I would be more worried about the oil pressure drop across 2 filters.
HV pumps are meant for applications that consume oil volume i.e.
Bearing to shaft clearance's
Leaky lifter bores
Push rod oiling
Oiling spray bars
Holes in pistons and blocks, oops I didn't say that.

You are better off using a bigger pan to gain oil volume.
I considered that but ground clearance is a concern . It it used mostly in the back country and I often have to navigate rocky rutted terrain .

.

Considered that as well . A high volume / high pressure pump might be the key . And RPMs rarely exceed 4k ...

Motorhome
built a lot of them
Big Oil cooler plate type is big - forget s shaped tube and fin
you can get them off ford trucks at pick a part cheep
which sump do you have- truck
and the big pan is a great idea but in your case maybe a road race pan good luck i
if you have it apart - windage tray really apart hemi size pickup- you have to retap the block or run external pickup
I have dual x long chevy filters on my boat for the reasons stated

No room for roadrace pan . And the Power Steering pump is mounted low on this one because of aftermarket A/C compressor . So I cant use a long filter due to PS belt. I have a mopar oil cooler adapter but cant use because of that .

so you have to go full remote off the pump
what the heck is under a motorhome that can't fit a wider pan

To me it doesnt look like there isenough room for the wider road pan .
The dual remote seems to be an easier/cheaper solution even if there is a pan somewhere that could fit .
Eventually I would like to rebuild the engine and possibly stroke it . But I just ordered new suspension and SD coils for it .

If you are going off road like that, then yeah, a deeper pan probably is a bad idea.

A stroked RV
I love it
Maybe it will be a new class at Dragweek

I will start a new thread with pics of our Rv camping last week .
Sorry I sidetracked the thread.

Probably not 100% applicable, but - the Cobra replica I built years ago has a 429 SCJ engine. No room at the block for a filter. I mounted dual filters off the block and also ran lines to an oil cooler ahead of the radiator. Only comment I have is that oil pressures with 2 AC Delco filters runs 25 at hot idle and 65 at cruising. Any other brand I've tried, the pressures drop 5 - 10 pounds. This is with a Melling HV pump. I went with two filters because ground clearance won't allow a larger pan.

If you have a problem with high oil temps increasing oil capacity only increases the time it takes for the oil to overheat.
