I need a new windshield/gasket for my '69 Swinger. AMD appears to have what I need; want to know if anyone has any experience with their windshield/gasket products? Good quality? Any installation/fitment issues?

Thanks!

Steele Rubber

Steele makes nice windshield gaskets. They used the one out of my 69 Dart conv. to use as the example to make a repro conv gasket. AMD likely buys them from Steele anyway.

Although I haven't bought from them i would suggest Precision. But before buying from anybody I would make sure gasket the gasket is a match. Any Steele I've seen has a dollar store lockstrip or trim with it.
Steve, what do you recommend instead of Steele?

We have sold hundreds of the Precision 690 gaskets for the 68 to 76 A-Body hardtop applications. Precision is an OEM vendor that manufactures hundreds of thousands of gaskets to OE specs.

Approximately ten years ago, Precision decided to drop the restoration side of the business. The business was sold off. Thankfully, the new owners decided to bring the Precision restoration gasket side of the business back into existence. Otherwise, we would be paying $250 or more for a windshield gasket and $300 for a rear gasket.

There can be issues with any gasket, whether it be a factory OE gasket or a reproduction gasket. There is basically only Precision and Steele making the majority of the gaskets for these old cars. On a much smaller scale for certain applications, Fairchild, Clesters and RSSI makes up gaskets for specific models not carried by either Precision or Steele. Also be aware that various vendors / manufacturers will purchase from each other to have product coverage. That is where you have to know the product well enough to determine which is the best alternative.

We purchase and deal with all of the different manufacturers and after 28 years, you get to know what does and does not work. If your going to have the glass installed by a outside vendor, check with them as some of them will want to provide the gasket for warranty reasons and they can make a few dollars off of the gasket. Prices vary greatly from vendor to vendor, so some footwork will be required. It will be probably be cheaper to purchase the two items independent of each other for the greatest dollar savings.

Seeing that your in the upper Ohio area, if you should go to Carlisle or the Columbus Nats, you can pickup a windshield and gasket at the show to save a bit on shipping. This will save you in that shipped glass requires an additional boxing fee. We can deliver to either show as well as there are other vendors as well which will take care of your needs.
