so I'm probably a little over excited, but today is the day I'm taking my car to the paint shop it's 40 year old paint will be removed and new Sublime PPG base coat clear coat applied including new deck paint and appropriate body work. This is the biggest single investment I have ever made on my car

No. You go K.O.
reminds me, It was like many years ago my friend's girlfriend posted a picture of her on the bed with all the money she won in the local lottery. That night they were robbed. LOL

Hope I'm not coming off like I'm showing off. I just can't believe how expensive paint and body work are. That's just a down payment
I was just playing :)
I just wanted to say good for you. It takes a lot of hard work to get there. Good for you.

That's a great feeling when it finally gets in the shop. I have a demon getting painted as we speak.

On a side note, are those AMD fenders on there and If so did you check the fitment of the marker lights? Reason I am asking is I put the AMD fenders on mine and found out the cutouts had to be opened up. Just didn't want you to find out after the paint was on?

Just trying to give a heads up on what I found out.

Two things come to mind one is he'll have to rob my painter because now I'm broke 2 I've been dying to find out if these new hollow points are really as destructive as they claim LOL

Hey Carl I put that fender on a few months ago and have been running the side marker light ever since no problems. That's weird that yours didn't fit

Ok cool! The recessed outline was fine. It was basically too much material inside of the recess/opening. Just had to grind to opening a bit, but would have been pissed if I found out afterwards. Just wanted to give a heads up incase you didn't check.

It cost me 12 grand to have my swinger painted and all the metal work was done and it was bare metal. I would hate to see the bill if I had to pay to strip it down and fix rust issues. Its worth it in the end, it just hurts to hand over the cash.

With the exception of first "real" drive day, I am not sure anything beats new paint day in the project. Four years ago for me - I was like a kid at Christmas.

I thought you weren't supposed to pay until after the work was done?

Asked a shop here in the PNW to give a quote for paint on my almost straight 69 Dart. They came back with $17000 for limited bodywork/prep all the way up to $40000 for the full massage and happy ending. Stupid crazy prices IMO. I asked how can you justify 40k...he say 400hrs of labor. I just don't see how you can spend that kind of time on a straight car for skilled people. I feel your pain! I am currently seeking other options.

he'll be into it nearly two thousand in. paint alone. That's what he asked for and I told him that's what you asked for now do what I asked for I think we have an understanding. He will get the rest upon completion

When I had my 70 Dart painted around 2003, it cost me $3500 for base/clear on a car that needed only 40 to 50 hrs of block sanding, I thought that was expensive. I had my 76 Ventura painted a few years ago, car is low mileage, zero rust (was around 34k miles at the time), cost me $2700 plus materials, I can't even imagine paying $10k and more for friggin paint, ridiculous! My 75 Dart Sport is lucky to get rattle can flat black.

These prices are in line with what I paid for paint and finishing body work. But there were other costs factored into my build before this point with the shop that painted my car. But I certainly didn't pay $10K or north of that for the paint job.
