I agree I have a lot to learn still and that's what makes life worth living.
I just don't see the necessity for the machine shop gurus to get in his head and pump up their wallets. Of course there's always improvements in every area. Personally I think this is one that's not necessary in this instance.. I can see where you have the knowledge means and ability at your own house to do all this so why not..

I agree. I just budget differently. I’ve done enough testing be be very sure a 30/45/60 valve job is very low on my list of power makers.

It just depends on what part of the budget you want to save money on.

When he talks about having to save to be able to buy $800 heads I know from my own experience that a bunch of valve work is going to need a lot more savings as well. And with me running them pretty much out of the box I can say at the very least I didn't lose anything over my well worked over Factory heads... And they had brand name parts 202 valves and a little bit of massaging as well... And cost way more than the speed Masters...

Remind me where you ended up for compression. I forgot what you had, and where you are now.

Pretty much guesswork I was at 11.3 to 1 and now pretty accurate about 11 to 1..
I just poured my last gallon of 110 Sunoco and to my 6 gallon gas can. I'm going to fill that up with non-ethanol tomorrow. Poor what I can into my fuel cell and go for a drive. I'm trying to wean it off the 110 Sunoco. Really I can only tell when I shut it off. I'll just start adding non ethanol after that and once it's out of Sunoco and it still shuts off I'll know I have success. If it runs on when I shut it off back to a little bit of Sunoco...

Ok, so you didn’t loose much. I thought you were using AV gas?

I used it exclusively when I first put the Stroker motor together. Then after a couple of years I just kind of got tired of going out to the airport every time I need some gas. I worked out my potion to where I only had to go get a 5 or 10 gallons Sunoco in mix a little bit with a bunch of non-ethanol...

The last pair or J heads I had done at one of the shops I use the bill was $718.00 IIRC. New stainless valves 2.02/1.60, Kmotion springs, hardened seats, 5 angle valve job and angle milled.

@ $950.00 it's likely he didn't want the bidness.

Just realize that flow is what produces HP not the material the head is made out of.

I'm still particular about putting non-ethanol gas in the car. I rarely go 10 gallon away from the house seeing as how I get about 12 miles per gallon. I always have a 2 gallon can of Sunoco strapped into the trunk in case I have to stop and get gas but I think I only did that once and not even sure I actually had to do it.. I've drove to the local track took four or five passes and drove home and stop for dinner as well with my wife on the same tank...
