Is there a way to identify an A body 4spd trany just by looking at pictures ? I know the trany mount is in a different location for different bodies & where the shifter mounts also.

A bodys are only application of 4 speed that is short shaft, and there is only one rear mount on those.

Stolen photo. Tail on left is A body. Other two are long shaft.

One to far right is up through 69 B body. One in middle is B/E body 70 and later E body used the rear mount.

early a body a833 . and this is an od a833 setup with a long tail setup for an a body . note the trans shifter placement is in between the b and e bodies mounts . just a small mod to the trans b body mount bosses and it fits an a body . bellhousing to tail is the same as a 727 , lol . so no need for an costly a body a833 , and a plus a gv od fits long talls not short ones .

oh ya , the 70 up has the mount in the same place as the a body , early b's are in a different location on the tail stock . you can see it a bit on the rack pic . note the rear mounting on third one down to the others , the second one down is an 69 big block a body type a833 trans with the large output shaft like hp b's n e's and c's used .
