Pressing clutch down I hear this..

Good morning Moparites...

I'm sure ( praying now) that I'll get an answer from someone here as I usually do.

8 out 10 times when I press the clutch down to shift gears I hear a a clicking sound, much like stepping on the high beam switch to go from low beam to high beam.

In fact the first couple of times I actually looked to see if somehow my foot was touching the switch on the floor...

I have no idea what this sound is. Any input, gradually appreciated.

You need to have the car on the hoist with someone working the clutch and another watching the linkage looking for something loose or binding.
 
My clutch assembly clicks (more like a clank) pretty loud sometimes when I press the foot pedal down. Usually the pedal will not return fully and have to pull it up by hooking my toes under the pedal, then it snaps up. This has little to do with actual clutch engagement, this happens afterwards.
I was told that the small upper shaft, where the spring mounts, is probably worn or has a flat spot, causing this. Supposedly it has nothing to do with the external linkages, which are new from Brewers.
I would have to drop the entire assembly from under the dash to get to it. Its supposedly not an easy removal, not to mention the repair itself.This shaft, or pin is not very accessible and is pressed in.
Thats what I was told, I really dont know much more about it. I would prefer to have a replacement part in hand before I even dropped the pedal assembly and layed up the car.
Not sure if this is kind of what you are experiencing.
Maybe someone else here has also had this issue.

There is a little black clip that holds the clutch rod in place. Check to see if that clip is worn and catching on the linkage or is about to come off?
 
I had the same thing as post #3. When I went to different style clutch and removed the heavy spring it went away.
 
Is yours a later A that has a clutch safety switch on it? If so, check the switch/bracket for alignment and action when the pedal is depressed- could be something as simple as a switch adjustment or replacement.
 
Your over center spring is dry or wore where it pivots on the assembly, My first guess. The first thing you need to do is make sure you have the correct parts in your car. There are several different pedal assemblies with different springs and pin spreads for different years and different motors. There are also different bell housing pivots and forks and the geometry is totally different. I had a guy come here and he had a new clutch put in and now his fork rubs the exhaust with the new fork. There is a late and early bell pivot from what I recall. They have different pivots which take different pin spreads on the pedals. I have been working on these cars a long time and still learning myself. Is your engine and trans original to your car? Below is an example of just two different years A and E body. Even the pivot ball attachment bracket is different on the side.

If your car just started this it is more than likely a worn and dry spring pin. I see cars come in all the time and the linkage adjustment rods are dry and wore. No one ever greases the linkage until its to late. Especially under the dash.

You might also look over the firewall and inner fender at the ball stud for any flexing and sheet metal popping.

I finally fixed the vibration in 4th at 3K rpm and real happy about that, I'll look into the clicking sound soon.

Greased U joints saps that they should be greased every 6 months if you are putting the car away for the winter and balanced the driveshaft again.

I know how horrible I felt at 2800,2900 max 3K rpms the whole thing would start to shake, vibrate and scare the bejesus out of me until I just floored it the last time and said, it blows stops or clears up.
Nothing happened but harder vibrations.... On my way to Dr Driveshaft... And finally my nightmares were finished.
