the shumacher motor mount let go engine lifts over 1 inch with a little gas brake or giving it gas on the road . now looking for some good engine mounts . damn . Thought the mounts would last longer . anything good out there besides solid mounts as i drive the car every day don't want to much vibration in the car

The holy grail of motor mounts

Never had the spool mounts..whats so bad about them, don't hold up? "new spool mount limits engine to 3 degrees of movement" ....?

I welded a pc of 1/4 round stock across the plates. No more lift.

Then ... I just bought solid motor mounts.
They don't bug me at all. Minutely louder.

You have no way to adjust engine placement with them. They are a PITA to get the bolts in. They don’t have readily available solid mounts.

I can feel the engine move on the Poly mounts. You can make a solid mount for the spool Mount, but why? If the earlier K member won’t hold the engine, I’ll use a plate.

I have spool mounts with clear silicone filled in the voids..... since 1993 !!

Not interested in solid mounts.

Don’t have big tube headers that I need tilt the motor around to fit.

Just thinking outloud here, and I haven't done it but could you just weld the left side mount and leave the right side one stock? Less vibrations and a quick cheap easy fix. Or just use one solid mount from Summit or whoever?

Absolutely.
That's the way to do it. The drivers lifts, the pass side smashes or acts like a heel.

I've tried solid mounts , guess I'm just more sensitive to the vibrations they induce , even the shumachers were a bit to much for me but changing mounts every 3 weeks I decided to pit up with it . guess I won't be driving for a while as the shop cannot find anything but stock mounts right now hardly driven the car in 3 years , always something that comes up .
Thanks for all the ideas though , i'll keep searching

The round steel stock welded is less of a resonance transfer compared to a solid mount. It's kinda like ..half or less the noise.

Another friend put a chain on his, half a link slack and wrapped some in black tape on ends so it wouldn't rattle. Stayed still except for the slack link in the center.

I GOT THE MANCINI MAGLOCK MOUNTS 59.00 WILL SEE IF THEY LAST . THEY LOOK SOLID ENOUGH , IF NOT I'LL WELD A PLATE ON THE MOUNT TO HOLD IT TOGETHER

I bent a 1/4” plate in a u shape with a slot cut in it. Sandwich it between the mount and the k frame and no more issue

AND YOU GET NO VIBRATION ? The rubber in the mount makes it like stock mounts . the [polylocks i had transmitted lots of vibration much more than the stock mounts I'll give it a try , thanks

What is so bad about spool mounts?? I have a strong 440 in a 74 scamp and the motor hardly moved... the mounts were 1974 also.

I used Mity Mounts in my 340 powered 67 Barracuda
They are expensive, but they work and fit very well.
Cured my header clearance issues.

Here's my fix. Use a new mount and before you break it , tie that bad dog down with a piece of chain.
Old school fix. Almost free. I can't believe the expense of some of these other fixes guys go to. Hole is already in the K frame bracket. Especially with Chinese rubber these days it's a must to do something.

Its been that way for over a decade and no vibration. I think that rubber mount is 35 years old!

Spool mounts are great, this is in regards to ,or focused on , the A 61-72 biscuit style.

For those hooking a torque strap or chain..
I would warn that chain placement is important. That's a decent amount of torque and you want the chain attached to the block or head or bracket...preferably.
The water pump, though multiply the clamping force by four 5/16 bolts and four 3/8, is not the best place to hook to..I'm not an expert and have no experience with trying to hook it there, just lookin out. Yes it holds the pump...but that's about 5-8 lbs tension on the belt and no shock load and no matter iron water pump or aluminum...its sitting on an aluminum front cover.
just my thoughts on it.
