My brother in law saw this car on his way to work today, he took a quick picture of it and sent it to me as I'm always into oddball cars. Neither he or I can tell what it is. Part of me thinks maybe an Opel gt? Or even more obscure, and very doubtful a 1969 baldwin motion phase III Corvette gt. Though I don't know that any had the side scoops like this one does.

the hood is chevy for sure, corvette I would say
the front end looks like an Avanti

might have been the mechanics special

That's a Buick Opel GT somebody tried to make look like a Corvette. Note the L88 hood. WTF is the Rustang side scoop about though?

I thought opel gt at first, but the opels had rear side windows. This one has only the single side windows. Not to say they couldn't have been filled in by someone. I am going to try to get by there and see if theres any badging. Its sitting on the outside fence of a junkyard.

That's what is throwing me too, if it weren't for the mustang side scoops I'd say conversion gt opel absolutely. Even with the rear side windows missing. Its possible like diymirage said, just a mechanic's special. Like a total Franken rod.

Heavily customized Opel GT, if you zoom in you can see the rear window is filled in looking on the inside, looks like they grafted Datsun "Nissan " headlight buckets and front bumper on. Then it looks like a fiberglass L88 hood scoop and custom made side scoops.

I can definitely see the window graft in now that you said that. That's a serious amount of time put into this thing. I'm not sure, but I think I actually like the looks of it. At least from the picture, who knows how rough it may be up close and all sides of it. I have to say, I'm onboard with it being a heavily modified opel. I am definitely intrigued by it.I am going to have to go by there and see if I can talk to someone and find out more about it.

I like it, it screams 70's custom. My wife had a Opel GT back in the 80's, I've always liked them, I wish she had kept hers. I liked the manual headlight doors, you pulled a lever and they flipped over.

Twenty years ago I had the chance to buy an opel gt project for like $200, it was literally a basket case as it was completely torn apart and in baskets and boxes all over the guys driveway. In the same neighborhood as this one. I wonder if it is one and the same.....lol, if it is for sale and still in the $200 range it's coming home. I've got a couple sbf engines and transmissions if its without drivetrain. At this point in its life it's so many cars in one, any engine and transmission package would be legitimate. Like you said, it's so 70's custom it's cool.

it it turns out to be an opel GT it would have come with a 1600 CC 4 banger (i think it was a 1600)
seeing how bastardized, sorry, customized it is, i would try to find a neon engine and drop it in

Came with a 83/102HP 1.9...a turbo 2.4 ACR Neon motor would rock in that. Id not even mess with the Ford SB stuff in that, probably would not fit. Cramped 4...

Oh man, the dog miles that car has on it.....

It sure has been driven hard and put away wet many times since it initially drove off the showroom floor.

I didn't even think about a neon engine. I see from time to time people selling the srt4 neon drivetrains. That would be a super fun way to spend some money. Lol, or waste it.

Looks like a Nissan Z car to me.......240, 260 280 Z look at the headlights.....

Well, it may have been a Mitsubishi at some point. Where are you seeing the emblem at?
