Hey all.

72 Demon 440 A833
Trans Dapt slant 6 K to RB motor mount kit
Moroso solid biscuit mounts
TTI 1 3/4" headers

Now the story. I had ancient homemade solid engine mounts. One of them broke. That setup wasn't ideal and I wanted something "better". The setup worked well for 3 years of abuse. I decided to get the trans dapt slant 6 to RB engine mount kit and use Moroso solid biscuit mounts over the rubber biscuit mounts provided. I test fitted everything, so I thought, with eh new mounts. All looked great. so I pulled the works and did some cleanup on the engine. Now I have it all dropped back in place. Engine sits a little lower than before. Which I thought would be great, since the valve cover was hitting my bulkhead for the wiring harness. Now that the engine and trans a set down where they look comfortable. I am trying to hookup the headers and Zbar. The header fits but the Zbar does not function. It hits the header where the rod for the clutch fork goes. Also pulls the Zbar away from the frame rail mount and falls off the ball stud. So I reset and started over. I put the Zbar back in the correct spot and bolted it to the bell housing. That worked great. Now the header doesn't come up high enough, unless the Zbar gets moved out of position again.

Any of you BB four speed guys running the factory stuff have any tips? Once again, this setup worked before but the mount broke. So instead of making a new mount I decided to go with a kit that people say works. If I was capable I would post pics but not the case. LOL

Anyway hope someone can give me a tip.

How thick were the rubber biscuits over the solid Moroso mounts? Put shims under the mounts to raise it back to the original position or make thicker solid mounts?

The solid mounts 1.02” per the mic.
The rubber mounts are .89” per the mic.

I am going to try shimming the mounts and see what happens. I have never been good with geometry. So maybe that’s where it is at. Lol

I guess another thing to do is measure the thickness of the original mount set-up to what is on there now. It's difficult to visualize without pictures. is it possible the trans mount shifted while changing the engine mounts?

Sorry for lack of pictures. I tried shimming the mounts. That didn't seem to help anywhere. I put a new poly trans mount in. To me the trans mount is in the correct spot. I am wondering if I need to round up a different Zbar to modify. As the one i have was modified for the old mounts. Tools were about to start flying, so I threw the towel in for the day. New start tomorrow after work.

I can understand the flying tools...that stopped when one decided to boomerang back and nearly hit me.

I did try that the first time around with the old mounts. I am leaning towards ordering one and trying it out again. Since everything has seemed to change. I have to do some measuring first. $120 isn’t bad but if it doesn’t work....
IF you had extras, you could make one. I used flat stock that was cut and welded for the lower portion. It ended up being three pieces welded. I put holes where the rods would go because I was going to use rod ends. I might be able to find it in short order if you'd like pictures or dimensions...but I wouldn't hold my breath. I did model it off an original 383 A-body piece that belonged to a friend.

That is what I have been thinking about doing as well. I have a welder and can easily get some flat stock. I have been brainstorming multiple game plans all day. Hopefully one of them will work.
