I grabbed a slant timing cover off of a 1990s D150 with slant six. When I got it home I noticed that the timing pointer is about 120 degrees off the original timing pointer location on my 1964 timing cover. Red arrow is approx location of original timing pointer.

It looks like it will bolt up just fine.

Question is: Will I have to transcribe a new TDC mark on the damper and, is there anything else I have to do to make it work?

I'm trying to refinish it before i do further work, so I can just bolt it up.

Unless you're South of the border the truck you grabbed the cover off of was either '87 or older or a swap. '88 and up US market trucks had the 3.9 V6 instead of the /6. No matter though...

The timing pointer is in a different spot on later motors. You can just mark TDC to match the new pointer on your original damper. It's best to have the head off to get an accurate mark but it's possible to do it with the head on too, pick your favorite method.

The timing tab on the early engine is held on with one cover bolt. If you are going to use the early damper, just swap the early timing tab to the new cover. Might want to remove the other timing mark from the "new" cover, so it is not confusing.
