My son in law was playing with gun powder all day on the 4th. Trying to make a 1/4 stick, he couldn't get the big bang that he wanted. As the alcohol set in, he eventually gave up with the glue stick and poured a trail to a can with what was left. Then the warning came.
I told him over and over, even tho the powder was 15 yrs old that he is asking for trouble.
Well a sparkler later, off it goes BOOM!.
Burnt his beard, arm, leg, eyebrows, and a good part of his hair off. Lol... He is ok and im still laughing about it but it could have been way worse.
Some people just dont get it. What your head dont know, yr *** is gonna feel.
Wish i recorded it. Lmao.
Hell, my 340 sounds like 1/4 sticks firing off every cylinder. Can't wait to fire off the hemi. Thats plenty good enough for me.

My pastors neighbor blew 5G in 4th fireworks. He told him he would have gladly taken 5G in the offering. Up in smoke....Our neighborhood sounded like just constant thunder until 1100. Too many people out of work and no where to go for a show I guess, all cancelled. I tell you what, professional shows didnt have much on some of these fireworks we saw. Everything was just lower altitude....and everything that leaves the ground is illegal here.

Same here. Better than anything the Harrisburg area ever had. Too much confinement i guess.
Was a blast and a 1/2.

the professional fireworks here were moved from a public park to a private beach
the only people allowed on that beach were marina members or residents of a voted community

the actual location where they were set of was a pier, one end of the canal that connects the little lake to Lake Michigan

so, I putted out and watched them from the lake

if there was one boat there, there were a hundred

Same here anything that leaves the ground is illegal but just across the river in Washington that's not the case. It was incredibly loud this year with Non-Stop fireworks. I don't have money to explode lol... that's what I refer to is just exploding money...

Sounds like your daughter couldda picked better. lol

True that. I did some stupid crap when I was younger and still catch myself pondering the abnormal.
The older, the wiser.

I bought some many years ago when I was in Texas over Christmas and New Years, one of them was some sort of a rocket, but when I lit it up, it leaned over and pointed in the direction I was headed, before I knew what was happening it came screaming past me and just over my car where my then wife was sitting. She was laughing until it flew by her head, missing her by about 18 inches. Last time I did anything with explosives.

I sit up on a hoghway overpass out in the country, and enjoy a 360 degree show for about 2 hours. A lot of families put on a better show than the public shows.

Wife said the fireworks were going off until well after 3:00 am.
17 years in the US Army Field Artillery.
I couldn't hear it, even if I could I wouldn't be impressed.

Just the opposite here in Lake of the Ozarks, nothing stays on the ground. Fireworks stands and stores all over.
The night of the 3rd and 4th it looked like the night sky over Baghdad when the USA kicked their ***.

We got most of the 41 hand vs morter cases back together with at least a pincher yesterday. Under 30 year old men (boys really) except for the one woman that was holding an M80 and some jerk lit it when she apparently wasnt ready and told her to "throw it" .....she didnt.

The positive side is that they tend to cauterize, so no "bleed out" situations tend to happen.

All the public ones were cancelled here in Eastern Washington, least I think they were. But with them being "legal" in the unincorporated county I live in there was plenty of noise. One of my dogs is terrified of the noise so if fireworks were outlawed here I would not care.
Hopefully the statue of limitations has expired....My Uncle George knew someone that worked in demolitions. Have no idea how his friend walked off the job site with a couple sticks of dynamite....but they ended up in my hands. I was 15 or so. Long story but I was in possession of a fire hydrant wrench. I left it out where I used to ride my dirt bike. Every now & then I would uncap a hydrant and open it up....the township would see a gigantic spike in flow and shut the water system down in this area.
I went for a walk one day...just to uncap a hydrant. Tossed the wrench out into the bushes, where I always left it. Few days later I had 1 stick of dynamite with me. My buddy was unaware of what I was doing...I wiggled it down into the hydrant, lit it and ran...I shouted to me friend as I was approaching he needed to run. The sound of it going off was incredible. The next morning, I was sound asleep in the basement of my folks home. My mother woke me up, screaming....Douglas Raymond Crann you better get your *** up here right NOW! She has the local paper, front page has a picture of a seriously torn up chunk of asphalt. Hydrant laying about 40' from where it should have been. "Unknown Vandal Strikes Again". Got a call from Uncle George later that day...he told me to not call him for a while as my mother, his sister, knew that somehow we were involved in the hydrant explosion.

Back when my youngest stepson was about 8-9 years old, he and his older brother were spending the weekend at their dads house. He got the bright idea to take some bullets apart and dump the powder into a can so he could see what it looked like when he dropped a match into the can.
He ended up without any eyelashes and eyebrows and a burn across half of his face. Luckily he healed up without any scars.

And alcohol wasn't involved...just young and stupid as most of us were.

I have formed a theory. (not new to many of you but....) Many males mature at a slower rate and do not graduate from adolescence until around age 30. Be it from frontal lobe impact from sports or crashing cars or flipping over your handle bars or fall from heights........you get the picture. As a result we do stupid things that end in injury, but generally we smarten up at 30 ish. Now......our society benefits from this in that we learn what we are truly capable of. Many things would not be possible without this lack of fear or built in adrenaline seeking behavior. What those things are I cannot think, (probably from "getting" unconscious many times).

On the fourth of July many years ago, a good friend of mine wanted an intact 50 caliber shell for his trophy case. Some how, he acquired one & took it into his parents garage & chucked it up in a vise with the projectile pointing down. According to the report from the fire marshal, it looked like he was trying to remove the primer to get the powder out of the shell. Needless to say, the primer ignited. the projectile hit the concrete & ricocheted up under his chin. His parents were out of town & he wasn't found until they returned home. His parents called all of his friends over & warned us about dealing with live ammo in case we were thinking about anything that crazy. They told us the funeral would be with a closed casket because the bullet blew his head away. RIP Jerry, that cured me of playing with live ammo until I went into the service years later.
